A pair of teams coming off impressive season-opening victories will meet on Saturday in Lincoln as the Cornhuskers play host to the Idaho Vandals. The Huskers opened the season with a 49-10 thumping of Western Kentucky, extending their season-opening win streak to a nation-leading 25 straight. Idaho opened the year with a 45-0 victory over North Dakota last Thursday night. The Idaho offense is led by North Platte native Nathan Enderle, who is in his fourth season as the starting quarterback and has more than 7,000 career passing yards. Enderle threw for 311 yards and two touchdowns in the season-opening victory. Game time for the first meeting between the two schools is set for 11:38. UNK outside linebacker Jay Kropp has been named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week. The 6-2, 225 senior from Grand Island had six tackles (three solo), one sack, an interception and a fumble recovery in the Loper's 32-29 win over UNO last Saturday night in Omaha. The win has vaulted the Lopers back into the AFCA Top-25 Poll, at #23. The Mavericks, who were ranked 12th in the nation last week, have fallen out of the coaches poll. The 23rd ranked UNK football team is off this weekend, but will begin RMAC action in two weeks when they host Mesa State.

Hastings College defensive lineman Jake Mueller is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Mueller, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska, anchored the Broncos defense in a 33-0 shut out win at Briar Cliff. For the game he had five solo tackles and two assist tackles for the 13th ranked Broncos. He also posted 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for 19 yards of loss. Hastings (1-0) will host Northwestern (0-1) in a Top-25 matchup this Saturday at 1PM at Lloyd Wilson Field.

Two UNK volleyball players have earned conference honors this week; Jeri Walkowiak has been named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week, and Cola Svec has been named the RMAC Setter of the Week. Walkowiak, a senior middle blocker from Grand Island led the Lopers in kills (3.67) and blocks (0.70) at the Tampa Classic last weekend. Svec, a senior from Elkhorn, directed an UNK offense that averaged 15.3 kills per set. Going 3-1 in Florida, the Lopers have moved up 6-spots in the latest AVCA Top-25 Poll, going from 13th too #7. The 7th ranked UNK volleyball team's home opener is this Wednesday night, as they host Augustana (S.D.) at 7:00. You can hear the Lopers home opener right here on 1340 AM KGFW.

The UNK women's soccer team will play their home opener tonight as they host Augustana (S.D.). The Lopers (1-1)) and Vikings (0-2) kickoff at 7:00 at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

After going 3-0 in Utah last weekend, the 7th ranked Nebraska volleyball team will host the Ameritas Players Challenge this Thursday-Saturday. Nebraska will welcome in 5th ranked Illinois, 20th ranked Dayton and Western Michigan, with Nebraska and Dayton opening the tournament on Thursday night with a 7 p.m. match at the NU Coliseum. The Huskers will then face Western Michigan at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Coliseum, and Illinois at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The Tri-City Storm will begin the 2010 exhibition schedule at the Viaero Event Center this Friday night as they host the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 PM. The Storm open the regular season October 1st against the Lancers on home-ice.

In High School action; the Kearney High girl's golf team travels to Grand Island this afternoon for a dual with the Islanders. The Kearney High softball team will host Holdrege tonight at 6:30. The Kearney Catholic boy's tennis team will host Holdrege at 4:00 this afternoon, and the Kearney Catholic volleyball team travels to Minden tonight for a Triangular tournament beginning at 5:00.
