(KGFW) – The Huskers are among the teams receiving votes in the preseason Coaches College Football poll. Clemson is #1. Five of Nebraska’s ten opponents begin the season ranked with Ohio State the highest at #2. Nebraska begins fall camp today in Lincoln.

Another high profile Big Ten player is opting out. Purdue receiver Rondale Moore will not play and focus on the 2021 NFL draft. Nebraska plays at Purdue on November 14.

A group of Nebraska athletes have started a social media campaign requesting greater minority representation among athletic leadership positions at NU. The group, which uses the hashtag LegacyOverImage, is requesting multiple  people of color serving as senior administrators, head coaches, and in positions with hiring power. Nebraska has never had a Black head coach. Also among the requests is a memorial to George Flippin, the first Black football player at Nebraska.

A petition drive is underway aimed at encouraging the Nebraska Hall of Fame Commission to consider including Grover Cleveland Alexander, a right-handed pitcher from Elba, who played 20 seasons  for three Major League teams from 1911-1930. Alexander, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938, died in 1950 at age 63 in St. Paul, Nebraska.

A south Lincoln auction Saturday will sell hundreds of  items filling the 4,000 square foot former home of former Husker and Loper and Major league pitcher Joba Chamberlain. Pinnacle Bank filed a notice of default late last year on the $1.14 million dollar home purchased by Chamberlain in 2014. He then abandoned the home earlier this year with all of his possessions inside.
