OMAHA, Neb. (DOJ) – Acting United States Attorney Jan Sharp announced that Oscar Ramos-Garcia, 37, was sentenced today in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska, for false representation of a social security number and reentry of a removed alien. United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr., sentenced Ramos-Garcia to concurrent terms of imprisonment of 12 months and 1 day for each offense. Ramos-Garcia is a citizen of Guatemala and will be deported when he completes his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Ramos-Garcia fraudulently used another person’s identity to obtain an identification card from the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles, and later used that card in conjunction with a fraudulent Social Security card bearing the victim’s Social Security number to obtain employment in Nebraska. Investigators discovered the fraud when Ramos-Garcia submitted an online application to renew the Nebraska identification card in July of 2020. Ramos Garcia had previously been convicted of reentry of a removed alien in 2018 and was removed by immigration authorities after completing his term of imprisonment in that case.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles Fraud Unit.
