Nebraska’s Cade Povich and Max Anderson have earned weekly honors from the Big Ten Conference. Povich was named pitcher of the week for the second time this season, while Anderson was tabbed as the league’s freshman of the week. Povich started the series opener against Northwestern on Friday night and retired the first 11 batters he faced. Now 5-1 on the season, the junior lefty was dominant allowing no runs on just two hits with no walks, while striking out five. Anderson was 7-for-10 at the plate last weekend, with two doubles. Three Huskers have now earned four weekly awards this season. Povich was named pitcher of the week on March 30th and Cam Chick was named player of the week on March 24th. The Huskers travel to Bloomington, Indiana this weekend for a pair of games against both the Hoosiers and Ohio State.

Five members of the UNK track & field team (three women and two men) have earned a chance to compete at the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Allendale, Michigan May 27-29. Redshirt juniors Tiara Schmidt and Logan Prater have both qualified in two events, Schmidt in the shot put and hammer and Prater in the shot and discus. True freshman high jumper Abby Everitt is the other UNK woman headed to Michigan. The Loper men will be represented by redshirt sophomore Luke Stuckey in the 1,500 and redshirt freshman Brayden Sorensen in the high jump. This year’s field was cut by 25% (377 to 283 competitors) due to the on-going pandemic. In a normal spring UNK would have likely had 13 qualifiers and 15 entries.
