The Huskers have re-entered two top 25 polls this week, coming in at No. 19 in the Baseball America rankings, and 20th according to D1Baseball.com. It’s their highest ranking since reaching No. 18 back in 2015. The winners of eight in-a-row, the Huskers are closing out the regular season this weekend at Hawks Field with a three game series against the Michigan Wolverines. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show is slated for Monday morning at 11:00 on ESPN2.

Husker walk-on kicker Ryan Novosel has entered the transfer portal. He spent just one season at Nebraska and did not see any game action. Novosel was listed a 4.5 star kicker by Kohl’s Kicking and was considered one of the Top 100 players at his position for the 2020 class. He will have all four years of eligibility to use at his next destination.

Steve Spongberg is stepping down as head coach of the Hastings College baseball team. In his eight seasons at the helm, the Broncos made six GPAC Tournament appearances, including a bracket final (semifinals) appearance in 2015.

The 63rd annual Shrine Bowl of Nebraska game will take place June 5th at 6:00 PM at the University of Kearney campus at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium Foster Field. The South roster includes Kearney High’s Gabe VanWinkle and Jack Johnson, and Kearney Catholic’s Cale Conrad and Logan O’Brien.
