The Big Red Blitz presented by FNBO is set to return on Wednesday, June 16, with Husker coaches and athletic staff visiting 20 cities and towns across Nebraska. Athletic Director Bill Moos, Head Football Coach Scott Frost, members of the football coaching staff, and several other Nebraska head coaches will canvas the state to meet and greet Husker fans. Towns scheduled for the 2021 Big Red Blitz include Alliance, Broken Bow, Chadron, Columbus, David City, Fremont, Grand Island, Hastings, Holdrege, Imperial, Kearney, Lexington, Loup City, Norfolk, North Platte, Ogallala, Scottsbluff, South Sioux City, Valentine and West Point. Husker senior Chance Hroch was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week by the league office yesterday. Hroch notched his first complete game with a career-high 9.0-inning effort against the Hoosiers in a 3-1 win Saturday. He matched a career high with 10 strikeouts and allowed just one run on three hits. This is the second week in a row a Husker has been named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, as Cade Povich earned the award for the second time this season last week. Nebraska wraps up the 2021 regular season at Hawks Field this weekend with three games against Michigan, starting on Friday at Noon.

The UNK women’s basketball team is adding three new members to their current recruiting class. The additions are transfers Grace O’Neill a 6-0 forward from Regis U., and 5-8 point guard Sarah Schmitt of Nebraska-Omaha. The Lopers are also adding Lincoln Pius point guard Jillian Aschoff. The Loper women went 23-4 last season, winning the MIAA Tournament and reaching the Central Regional finals of the NCAA Tournament. The Lopers have won 49 of its last 59 games and will have nine upperclassmen on its 2021-22 roster.
