The start times for six Nebraska football games were made public yesterday by the Big Ten Conference and the league’s television partners, including BTN, ESPN and FOX. The Aug. 28th Week Zero season opener at Illinois will be televised on FOX and will kickoff at Noon. The Sept. 18th matchup at long-time rival Oklahoma is set to be televised at 11:00 on FOX, as the network’s Big Noon contest. Fox also announced that their Big Noon Kickoff pregame show will in Norman for that game. Kickoff times for four of the Huskers’ seven home games were also announced on Thursday. In non-conference action, Nebraska will play host to Fordham on Sept. 4th with an 11:00 kick. The following week (Sept. 11th), the Huskers take on Buffalo in Lincoln with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff. Both of those games will be televised on the Big Ten Network. The Huskers’ Homecoming game with Northwestern on Oct. 2nd will be under the lights at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff for the matchup with the Wildcats will be 6:30 with the television network to be determined. Nebraska and Iowa once again meet in their traditional Black Friday game, with this year’s matchup in Lincoln. The Huskers and Hawkeyes will kick off at 12:30 with television coverage provided by the Big Ten Network. Additionally, Nebraska’s Nov. 20th game at Wisconsin will be televised by one of the networks in the ESPN/ABC family with kickoff time determined later. The Big Ten championship game will return to prime time with a 7:00 kickoff on FOX on Dec. 4th.
In other Husker football related news: Text messages from last August confirm that Ohio State, like Nebraska, considered pursuing an independent schedule after the Big Ten’s initial decision not to play football in the fall.
The nationally ranked Nebraska baseball team closes out the regular season this weekend at Hawks Field with a three game series against the Michigan Wolverines. Game one begins today at Noon. The winners of eight in-a-row, the Huskers have already clinched the Big Ten title, and are guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Tournament. That field will be announced Monday.
Trailing by four entering the bottom of the ninth, the Creighton Baseball team opened Big East Tournament play yesterday with a walk-off 8-7 win over the 3rd seed Seton Hall. The 2nd seeded Bluejays will face the top seed, UConn, in a winners bracket game today at 5:30. The tourney wraps up Sunday. The winner receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
3rd-seeded Omaha lost to 2nd-seeded North Dakota State 3-1 in the Summit League Baseball Tournament at Tal Anderson Field in Omaha yesterday. The Mavs will play South Dakota State in an elimination game this morning at 11:00.
UNK redshirt junior Tiara Schmidt earned her fifth All-American honor by placing ninth in the hammer at the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships yesterday in Allendale, Michigan. She is UNK’s first All-American in the hammer since Danyell Coons in 2015. Still to compete this weekend are true freshman high jumper Abby Everitt, redshirt sophomore Luke Stuckey in the 1,500 meter run and redshirt freshman Brayden Sorensen in the high jump.
The Tri-City Storm completed separate draft day transactions with the Sioux Falls Stampede and Waterloo Black Hawks yesterday. The Storm acquired forward David Sacco from Waterloo in exchange for future considerations. They also acquired defenseman Mario Gasparini from Sioux Falls in exchange for an 8th Round pick in yesterday’s Phase II Draft and future considerations. The Storm also announced the addition of Haden Kruse, Arvega Hovsepyan, and John Druskinis. All three were “Players to be named later” from multiple transactions last season.
