Nebraska’s Spencer Schwellenbach was named one of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award on Tuesday. The award is presented to the top amateur baseball player in the country by USA Baseball. Schwellenbach is the first Husker to be named a semifinalist for the award since Scott Schreiber in 2018. Alex Gordon is the program’s lone recipient of the award, winning it in 2005. Johnny Dorn was also a semifinalist in 2008, while Ken Harvey (1999) and Darin Erstad (1995) were finalists for the award.

Tentative details for each stop of next week’s Big Red Blitz are now set. The Blitz will stop in Kearney next Wednesday at 2:30 at the Younes Conference Center South. Guests will include Head Football Coach Scott Frost, Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Nate Loenser and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development Ben Murray. The stop will be emceed by the voice of the Huskers Greg Sharpe. Capacity is limited for each event, and fans will be admitted free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ten Nebraska track and field athletes will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this week in Eugene, Oregon. The meet begins Wednesday evening and runs through Saturday.
