The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department was notified of a fire near 39th and Imperial street before 2 a.m. Dispatched members arrived to the scene and  identified a large structure to be the source of the fire. The structure had been apart of the Aurora Cooperative facility and was being used to store dry fertilizer on the site.

Mutual aid was requested by the KVFD from Elm Creek, Gibbon, Pleasanton, and Good Samaritan EMS. A total number of 49 firefighters were on the scene. Along with 9 Tankers, 3 Engines, 3 Grass-Rigs trucks, and 3 Utility trucks.

Excavators were used in the process to move damaged parts of the structure and allow firefighters to target and extinguish hidden flames. The excavators were provided by the Buffalo County Department of Roads.

The flaming structure was brought under control after about 3 hours. The structure is estimated to be a $700,000 loss. The State Fire Marshal assisted in identifying the cause and origin of the fire, which was found to be an electrical issue. On another note no injures were reported.
