The NCAA handed down several penalties for a rules violation committed by former Creighton assistant Preston Murphy. The punishment includes scholarship reductions, recruiting restrictions and two years probation, among other penalties. The Jays will be allowed to compete in the postseason. Murphy was one of four college assistant coaches involved in a federal bribery scandal.
Papillion-La Vista’s Jordyn Bahl, who will soon be an Oklahoma Sooner, was honored Monday as the Gatorade national softball player of the year.
In Husker recruiting news; Four-star athlete Jaden Mangham will be coming to Lincoln for an official visit this weekend. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Mangham is the No. 293rd best overall prospect in the Class of 2022 and the 9th best prospect in the state of Michigan. He has more than 35 scholarship offers, from teams such as Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oregon and Penn State. Mangham says he is being recruited by the Huskers primarily as a wide receiver but also potentially as a defensive back. Jaden’s older brother, Jaren, is a running back at Colorado and played for current Michigan State coach Mel Tucker.
