On Friday, Bill Moos announced he is stepping down as Nebraska’s athletic director this Wednesday. Originally hired in Oct. 2017, Moos was just three and a half years into his contract, making him the shortest-tenured Husker A.D. in at least 60 years. During his tenure as A.D. Moos hired 12 coaches including Scott Frost, Fred Hoiberg and Will Bolt. He also championed Nebraska’s in-progress $155 million football facility project. Chancellor Ronnie Green said Nebraska would begin a national search for Moos’ replacement. Senior associate athletic director for external relations Garrett Klassy will serve as interim athletic director.

In a related note from HUSKERMAX.com; Lars Anderson, the writer who was correct about the Frost and Hoiberg hires, tweets that Nebraska’s pick for athletic director will be former Nebraska linebacker Ed Stewart. As a senior with the Cornhuskers, the All-American captain led his squad to a 1994 national championship victory, earning Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year honors along the way. In his post-playing career, Stewart has spent the past 20 years in athletic administration. For the past 14 years, Stewart has served as a member of the senior management team for the Big 12 Conference office. He currently holds the title of Executive Associate Commissioner of Football.

The Huskers picked up the second member of the 2023 recruiting class on Saturday when Gunnar Gottula committed following his unofficial visit. Nebraska made an offer to the 6-foot-6 and 255-pound offensive tackle after a strong performance at the first Friday Night Lights camp. He joins Pierce’s tight end/receiver Benjamin Brahmer as the two commits so far in the 2023 class. Both are sons of well-known high school coaches in the state, with Mark Brahmer coaching at Pierce and Ryan Gottula the head man at Lincoln Southeast.

The College World Series finals get underway tonight at T.D. Ameritrade Park in Omaha.
