Big Ten Coach of the Year Will Bolt has received a contract extension and pay raise after leading the Nebraska baseball program to a conference title in 2021. Bolt received a one-year contract extension, his deal now runs through June 30th, 2026. In addition, Bolt will receive a $100,000 increase in his annual salary.
For the first time in 13 years, the Nebraska baseball team is ranked in three of the final major polls of the season. They’re 17th on D1Baseball, 20th on Baseball America and 21st according to Collegiate Baseball.
Nebraska outfielder Jaxon Hallmark was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 team on Thursday morning. One of five outfielders on the list, Hallmark was a first-team All-Big Ten selection this past season and led the Huskers in multiple categories, including batting average (.342), hits (67), home runs (10), triples (3), stolen bases (16) and sacrifice bunts (6). As a first-team honoree, Hallmark will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
The Nebraska men’s basketball program added another non-conference matchup Thursday morning. The Huskers will face Auburn in the 2021 Holiday Hoopsgiving event. The matchup will take place at the State Farm Center in Atlanta on Saturday, Dec. 11th. Auburn and Nebraska have never met on the hardwood. The Tigers are ranked 20th by Gary Parrish of CBS in his most recent Top 25-and-1 rankings.
The name, image and likeness era has officially begun. Thursday brought forward a number of announcements on the NIL front for Nebraska. The list of athletes immediately taking advantage of this new opportunity included Omar Manning, Lexi Sun, Trey and Bryce McGowens and Austin Allen. The NCAA Board of Directors on Wednesday cleared the way for nearly a half-million student-athletes to start earning money based on their fame and celebrity without fear of endangering their eligibility or putting their school in jeopardy of violating amateurism rules

The United States Hockey League released the regular season schedules for all sixteen member clubs Thursday. Following two COVID-19 shortened seasons, the league is returning to a full sixty-two game format. The Storm opens the season with a game against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at the 2021 DICK’S Sporting Good USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania on Thursday, September 23rd. Their home opener at the Viaero Center is set for Friday, October 8th when they host Waterloo.
