Husker outside linebacker JoJo Domann was named to the preseason 2021 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List by the Football Writers of America (FWAA) Tuesday. The trophy is annually awarded to the nation’s top defensive player. A sixth-year senior, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound Colorado native enters the 2021 campaign with 137 career tackles in 41 games. Domann is one of 13 Big Ten players on the 90-member preseason watch list.
The Huskers will hold their first practice of the fall this Friday. The team will hold 25 practices in all; eight in helmets, nine in half pads and eight in full pads. They open the season with a Week-Zero road game at Illinois, Saturday August 28th. Kickoff will be at noon.

Oklahoma and Texas have formally notified the SEC they are seeking “an invitation for membership” beginning July 1st of 2025. The two made the announcement in a joint statement released by both schools Tuesday. SEC officials are expected to discuss conference expansion when they meet Thursday.
The Bleacher Report’s All-Big 12 team of the 21st century features two former Huskers, Ndamukong Suh and Prince Amukamara. Both were first round NFL Draft Picks; Suh was selected second overall by the Detroit Lions in 2010, the New York Giants selected Amukamara with the 19th overall pick in 2011.
The UNK football team received their highest ranking ever in the MIAA Preseason Polls released Tuesday. The Lopers are picked to finish in fourth in the coaches’ poll and fifth in the media poll. It’s their highest preseason rankings since joining the conference in 2012. The Lopers will open their fall camp on Monday, Aug. 9th, with the season-opener coming at home against Missouri Southern on Thursday, Sept. 2nd.
