Husker place-kicker Connor Culp was honored Wednesday, as the senior was named to the 2021 Lou Groza Award watch list. The Groza Award is presented annually to the nation’s top place-kicker. Culp put together an impressive debut for the Huskers in 2020, hitting 13-of-15 field goals and all 20 of his P.A.T’s for a team-high 59 points.

The Nebraska Football team’s Fan Day is set for tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. inside Memorial Stadium. In addition to the previously announced event details, the Nebraska Athletic Department has added the following health and safety guidelines as a result of the recent rise of COVID-19 cases in Lincoln.

– Fans are encouraged to maintain social distancing whenever possible.
– Attendees should not gather near the Memorial Stadium gates until shortly before the start of the event at 5:30 p.m.
– It is recommended that unvaccinated individuals and any individuals with underlying health conditions wear a mask. – Additionally, all fans are encouraged to wear a mask when in large crowds and social distancing is not possible.
– Hand sanitation pumps will be available at several locations, including near public entrances at Gates 3 and 24 and at multiple locations around the Memorial Stadium field.
– Fans will not be allowed to group around players and coaches before, during and after the event.
– At the conclusion of Fan Day at 7:30 p.m., please maintain distance from players and allow them to exit the field.
– Members of the event staff stationed near each line will not allow fans to come around the table to take pictures with student-athletes and coaches.
– In addition to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, fans are encouraged to take necessary precautions due to the heat advisory for Lincoln on Thursday.
– Water may be brought into the event, and will also be available to purchase during Fan Day.
– Fans are also encouraged to take a break and sit in the shade in the West Stadium.
– As always, autographs are limited to one item per player/coach.

The Huskers will hold their first practice of the fall tomorrow morning. There will be 25 practices in all; eight in helmets, nine in half pads and eight in full pads. The Huskers open the season with a Week-Zero road game at Illinois, Saturday August 28th. Kickoff will be at noon.

Over 160 kids attended the Central Nebraska Development Football camp yesterday at Kearney Catholic high school. Husker quarterback and former Kearney Catholic standout Matt Masker organized they event. Among the Husker players helping with the camp was fellow Kearney Catholic standout and quarterback Heinrich Haarberg.

A record-tying six players with ties to the Tri-City Storm organization were selected at the 2021 NHL Draft. Matthew Knies was Tri-City’s highest selected player this year, going 57th overall in the 2nd Round to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Carter Mazur was selected 70th overall in the 3rd Round by the Detroit Red Wings. Guillaume Richard was drafted 101st overall in the 4th Round by the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Minnesota Wild selected Nate Benoit 182nd overall in the 6th Round. Chase Clark was selected 183rd overall in the 6th Round by the Washington Capitals. Arsenii Sergeev was selected 205th overall by the Calgary Flames.
