We are now just 19 day away from the Huskers’ season opener at Illinois. On Friday head coach Scott Frost said, this fall, their focused on eliminating mistakes that have cost them games in the past. The Huskers are taking a break today but they return to the practice field tomorrow. They open the season at Illinois Saturday, August 28th. Kickoff will be at noon.
One other Husker football note: Walk-on punter Tyler Crawford has entered the transfer portal.
Husker All-American Lauren Stivrins is returning for one more season with the Nebraska volleyball team. Stivrins made her decision public on social media Friday. Stivrins earned her third consecutive All-America award and second straight first-team recognition last spring. She was also named a unanimous AVCA All-North Region and All-Big Ten First Team honoree for the third straight season. The Husker volleyball team’s Red-White scrimmage is set for Saturday, August 21st at 6:00. They open the season the following week with the Husker Invite at the Devaney.
Former Nebraska All-Americans Jordan Larson, Justine Wong-Orantes and Kelsey Robinson became Olympic gold medalists Sunday as the United States volleyball team defeated Brazil 3-0 in the final match of the 2020 Tokyo Games. Larson was named the tournament MVP and Best Outside Hitter, while Wong-Orantes was named Best Libero.
The UNK football team is holding their first practice of the fall this morning. Picked to finish fourth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches’ poll, and fifth in the Media Poll, the Lopers open their season Thursday, Sept 2nd with a home game against Missouri Southern.
The Hastings Little League team improved to 2-0 at the Midwest Regional in Indianapolis Sunday. They defeated the Minnesota state champ 2-0. They now advance to the winner’s bracket to face South Dakota Thursday morning at 10:00 Central Time.
