The Hastings Little League team saw their magical season come to an end at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania yesterday. The Nebraska, and Midwest Champions, fell to the Texas State Champs 10-0 in 5-innings. By going 2-2, Hastings is the first team from Nebraska to win their opening game at the Little League World Series, and they’re the first team from the Nebraska to win two games.

A community celebration for the team will be held next Wednesday. A parade will begin at 5:30 p.m as the team gets driven down 2nd Street from Burlington Ave. to Colorado Ave. Following the parade, a reception to honor the individual players and the team will then be held at Duncan Filed beginning at 6:00 p.m. State and local officials will present various honors to the team. The team will then have an autograph session. Fans may bring items to be signed. A limited number of commemorative posters and baseballs will be available. All events are free and open to the public.

The Huskers are practicing again this morning as they continue to prep for their season opener at Illinois. No one is quite sure what to expect from the Fighting Illini Saturday. They have a new head coach in Bret Bielema, and a new offensive coordinator, Tony Petersen. Despite the unknowns, Husker defensive coordinator Erik Chinander thinks his guys are ready for anything…

EC1 – 17 sec “got a shot”

The Huskers will travel to Champaign tomorrow after a brief walkthrough. The Huskers and Fighting Illini kickoff the season this Saturday at noon.

One more Husker football related note; Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts announced that the program is 90 percent vaccinated heading into the season opener against Illinois. If a Big Ten team is unable to play because of Covid-19 issues this season, the game will be deemed a forfeit.
