HUSKER FOOTBALL DOWNS FORDHAM

Nebraska won its home opener for the 34th time in the past 36 seasons, downing Fordham 52-7. The Huskers surpassed 300 yards in both rushing and passing against Fordham. This is the third time in school history Nebraska has accomplished that statistical milestone.

Running back Markese Stepp rushed 18 times for 101 yards, marking his first career 100-yard rushing game.

Fordham linebacker Ryan Greenhagen recorded 30 tackles, tying a Memorial Stadium record with Clete Pillen in 1976.

 

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL GOES UNDEFEATED OVER WEEKEND

The No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team withstood some challenges during the Ameritas Player Challenge, but ended undefeated against tough competition.

Friday, Nebraska was tested by neighboring Omaha defeating the Mavericks 3-2.

Nebraska remained undefeated with the Friday nightcap, defeating Georgia 3-1.

The Huskers then won its fifth straight match Saturday night to close the Challenge, defeating Arizona State 3-0.

Nebraska visits in-state foe Creighton on Wednesday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. Pregame starts on KGFW at 6 p.m. with first serve set at 6:30 p.m.

 

CAFFEY NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Nebraska volleyball senior middle blocker Kayla Caffey was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Caffey paced the Huskers as No. 4 Nebraska went 3-0 at the Ameritas Players Challenge. The Chicago, Ill., native earned all-tournament team recognition.

It marks the first weekly conference honor of Caffey’s career. NU’s last Defensive Player of the Week honoree was Kenzie Knuckles in November 2019.

 

UNK VOLLEYBALL RALLIES IN NEW YORK, GOES UNDEFEATED

No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney rallied past No. 27 Gannon on Saturday to cap a weekend in New York going 4-0.

UNK defeated Malloy College and American International College on Friday, then downed Wilmington and Gannon on Saturday. 

UNK hosts the University of St. Mary Wednesday night with the Rosella Meier Classic set for next weekend.

 

UNK CROSS COUNTRY WINS HOME INVITE

The Nebraska-Kearney cross country women’s team tallied 18 points and the men scored 26 points to win the UNK Invitational Friday evening at Meadowlark Hills.

This was the season-opening meet for the Lopers

UNK heads to Joplin, Missouri on September 18 for the annual Missouri Southern Stampede.

 

BEARCATS FALL IN FINAL MOMENTS AT BURKE

The Kearney High Football team tied the game at 21 with only a few minutes left in the game at Burke Friday night, but a 75 yard touchdown catch and run by all-state Devon Jackson won the game as the Bearcats fell to 1-1 on the season.

Kearney will face North Platte on Friday with pregame coverage on KGFW starting at 6:30 p.m.

 

HUSKER WOMEN’S SOCCER DOWN PREVIOUSLY UNDEFEATED LOYOLA

The Nebraska soccer team handed Loyola its first loss of the season with the Huskers’ 3-0 shutout of the Ramblers on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers return to action on Thursday versus Arizona State. 

 

UNK SOCCER FALLS TO MONTANA STATE-BILLINGS

A goal in the 66th minute downed UNK 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

UNK, now 1-1 hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State and Augustana next weekend at Cope Stadium.
