HUSKERS WIN BIG OVER BUFFALO
Adrian Martinez accounted for over 400 yards of offense and the Blackshirts stifled the Buffalo offense as Nebraska won its second game of the season 28-3.
FROST – DEFENSE PLAYED WELL, OFFENSE NEEDS CONSISTENCY
Head Coach Scott Frost spoke to the media after Saturday’s win over Buffalo. He complimented the Blackshirts defense for bending at times but not breaking, and added he needs to see more from the offense….
Frost added he was impressed by another great performance by quarterback Adrian Martinez.
FROST – STILL WORK TO DO
After a solid effort by both the offense and defense on Saturday’s 28-3 win over Buffalo, Head Coach Scott Frost added in his post game comments that there is still room for improvement…
Special teams had plenty of miscues again on Saturday, losing a punt return and missing three field goals. Two touchdowns were also taken away due to penalties.
LOPER FOOTBALL COMES BACK TO WIN IN PITTSBURG
UNK Quarterback TJ Davis threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score as the Lopers came back from a 17-7 halftime deficit to win 28-17 over #23 Pittsburg State.
UNK will likely enter the D2 Top 25 this week for the first time since the 2011 playoffs.
UNK hosts Washburn (2-0) next Saturday at Cope Stadium. The Ichabods have beaten Lincoln and Central Missouri to date. UNK last faced Washburn in the regular season finale in 2019.
LOPER VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS WEEKEND FALL CLASSIC
Third ranked UNK dominated all weekend at home in the Rosella Meier Fall Classic, improving to 8-0 on the season and beating other national powerhouses along the way.
UNK downed Chadron State and Southern Nazarene on Friday, followed by a 3-0 sweep of previously unbeaten and ranked West Texas.
UNK hosts Emporia State and nationally-ranked Washburn up next weekend.
HUSKER VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN FIVE SETS TO UTAH
The No. 3 Nebraska volleyball team saw a two-set lead slip away Saturday night, falling to No. 20 Utah 3-2. The Huskers are now 6-1 on the season, while the Utes remain undefeated at 7-0.
Nebraska plays its final non-conference road match, visiting No. 14 Stanford on Tuesday, September 14.
KEARNEY HIGH VOLLEYBALL RUNNER-UP AT HOME INVITE
The Bearcats Volleyball team ended as runner-up in their home invite on Saturday. Kearney won 2-0 over Grand Island Senior High and Grand Island Northwest in the opening matches, then followed up with a win over North Platte 2-0.
Kearney would fall to Gretna 2-1 in the final match, giving the Dragons the invitational championship.
BEARCATS DOMINATE NORTH PLATTE, EARN SECOND WIN
Kearney’s defense earned three fumble recoveries in the first half and held a lead of 28-0 at the end of the first quarter before dominating North Platte with a 42-14 win Friday night.
The Bearcats Riley Miller also connected with his cousin Kaden Miller for two touchdown tosses to cap an impressive performance on both sides of the ball.
Kearney improved to 2-1 on the season and travels to Millard West this week. North Platte lost their first contest of the season and sits at 2-1.
HUSKER WRESTLERS QUALIFY FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Former Husker greats Jordan Burroughs and James Green secured a spot on the U.S. team and will compete at the 2021 Senior World Championships on Oct. 2-10 in Oslo, Norway after winning their divisions at the Senior World Team Trials hosted in Lincoln.
