6-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN KEARNEY; POTTER-DIX and CODY-KILGORE DO BATTLE

Two western-Nebraska teams make the trek down to Kearney today for the 6-Man title game hosted by UNK. 

Both teams are undefeated on the season, and await a rematch from last year where Cody-Kilgore won 42-8 in the 2020 state quarterfinals. 

Potter-Dix has been on the rise for a few years – having gone 1-7 two seasons ago and having multiple years in the past decade of winless seasons. 

Kickoff is set for 7 PM from Ron and Carol Cope Stadium. All tickets must be purchased electronically or by card at the door as cash will not be accepted at the event. 

 

LOPER VOLLEYBALL FACES UCM AGAIN FOR MIAA TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL

The red-hot and fourth-seeded Lopers (25-5) advanced to Friday’s semifinals in Warrensburg, Mo. after downing Central Oklahoma on Tuesday. 

The opponent standing in the way of an MIAA Finals appearance is No. 3 and top-seed Central Missouri (26-3); the two split the regular season series. First serve is set for 6 PM. 

The winner will take on the winner of #2 Northwest Missouri State and #3 Washburn. 

 

LOPER FOOTBALL HITS THE ROAD FOR FIRST PLAYOFF MATCHUP SINCE 2011

For the first time since 2011, the Lopers are back in the playoffs and hitting the road to take on former RMAC rival Western Colorado in Gunnison, CO. 

The last meeting between the two was in 2011, a game in which UNK won 55-14. 

Western is in the playoffs for the first time since 1997. UNK will have to tame the blitz of the Moutaineers who are second in D2 in sacks. 

The game kicks off at 2 PM and can be seen across the RMAC Network. 

 

HUSKER VOLLEYBALLCANCELS SENIOR NIGHT AGAINST RUTGERS

The No. 11 Nebraska volleyball team’s regular-season home finale with Rutgers scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20 has been canceled due to non-COVID related illnesses within the Scarlet Knights’ program.

In alignment with Big Ten forfeiture policies, the match will be recorded as a loss for Rutgers, and Nebraska will be credited with a conference win.

The Huskers’ match with No. 15 Penn State on Friday, Nov. 19 remains on as scheduled. NU will honor its five seniors with Senior Night festivities following Friday’s 8 p.m. contest.

 

HUSKER MEN LOOK FOR BOUNCE BACK AGAINST IDAHO STATE

The Nebraska men’s basketball team looks to regain its winning ways on Friday night, as the Huskers take on Idaho State at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tipoff between the Huskers and Bengals is set for 6 p.m.

The Huskers (1-2) showed fortitude, clawing back from a 19-point first-half deficit to get within one, but could not get over the hump in a 77-69 loss to Creighton on Tuesday night.

Friday’s game with Idaho State begins a stretch of three games over a six-day span for Nebraska, as the Huskers host Southern (Sunday) and Tennessee State (Tuesday).

Idaho State is 1-2 on the season and looks to snap a two-game losing streak. The Bengals opened the season with an 82-61 win over Eastern Oregon before suffering back-to-back losses at Pepperdine (65-60) and at Seattle (77-51).

 

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL THURSDAY POST-PRACTICE COMMENTS:

FROST – TEAM IS EXCITED DESPITE ADVERSITY

Head Coach of the Huskers Scott Frost told the media after Thursday’s practice that his team is still excited despite a lost season and the departure of most of the offensive coaching staff… 

The Huskers take on Wisconsin for the final road challenge of the season. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM from Camp Randall Stadium.

 

FROST – OFFENSE READY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES

Head Coach of the Huskers Scott Frost had some extra work this past week in preparation for the Wisconsin defense. Frost named interim coaches to the offensive line, receivers, quarterbacks, and running backs after the removal of those position coaches last week. 

Frost added his offense is still ready to go despite the challenge… 

Frost’s offense faces the top ranked defense in the conference against Wisconsin.

 

FROST – HUSKER OFFENSE MUST EARN YARDS AGAINST BADGERS

Head Coach Scott previewed the Wisconsin defense and the challenge his team faces on Saturday… 

The Wisconsin defense leads the Big Ten in most significant defensive categories, only allowing 14 points a contest. The Husker offense will look to match their 26 points per game scored.

 

FROST – LOOKING TO “LET IT RIP” ON 4TH DOWN

The Husker offense has been hampered on scoring points all season by missed opportunities by Nebraska’s kicking unit. Head Coach Scott Frost said that he is willing to take some chances against Wisconsin… 

Frost mentioned that he trusts his kickers as he said it was an excellent two weeks of kicking in practice. 

 

FROST – CHINANDER HAS CREATED GREAT DEFENSIVE CULTURE

Head Coach Scott Frost gave praise to the defensive coaching staff for creating a new culture of success for the Blackshirts… 

The Blackshirts look to continue their success into the final two games of the regular season. 

 

FROST – PLAYERS KEEP FIGHTING FOR EACH OTHER

Head Coach Scott Frost addressed the media on Thursday and said he continues to see his team compete everyday in practice… 

Frost and the Huskers look to close out the regular season strong with a road contest at Wisconsin on Saturday and the final home stand against Iowa on Black Friday. 

 

STILLE EARNS ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONOR

Nebraska defensive linemen Ben Stille was honored Thursday afternoon, as he was named to the Academic All‐District® VII Football Team, selected by CoSIDA.

Stille is a three-team first-team selection, as he was also a first-team honoree in 2019 and 2020. The Ashland, Neb., native is currently working on his second master’s degree at Nebraska while carrying a 3.40 in graduate school. He has already earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in nutrition and health science.

He will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All‐America® ballot. First‐ and second‐team Academic All‐America® honorees will be announced in mid‐December.

 

NEBRASKA’S SUN NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

Nebraska outside hitter Lexi Sun has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Second Team, it was announced Thursday.

A native of Encinitas, Calif., Sun earns her third straight Academic All-District award, as she was previously a first-team honoree last season and a second-team pick in 2019.

Sun was a second-team Academic All-American last season. For her career, she is a two-time AVCA All-American, a three-time AVCA All-Region pick and has twice received All-Big Ten recognition. Sun is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

The Nebraska volleyball program has placed a student-athlete on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team seven consecutive years.

Alberts and Frost restructured the Head Coaches’ contract last week while also removing most of the offensive coaching staff. 

 

ALBERTS – LOYALTY EMBRACED AT NEBRASKA

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts spoke with NRG Media affiliate KLIN on Wednesday, and addressed how loyalty played into a factor of giving Head Football Coach Scott Frost another chance… 

Alberts continued by saying that all decisions are also based on money available for athletics and the impact a new coach could bring to any athletic program. 

 

ALBERTS – IT IS NO LONGER 1993, FOOTBALL MUST CATCH UP

Athletic Director Trev Alberts joined NRG Media affiliate KLIN on Wednesday and said it is time for Husker fans to stop looking in the past… 

Alberts added that he and Head Coach Scott Frost are on the same page in building Nebraska football back to being a competitive program week-in and week-out.

 

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR PENN STATE, RUTGERS

The No. 11 Nebraska volleyball team (19-6, 13-3 Big Ten) plays its final two home matches of the regular season this weekend, welcoming No. 15 Penn State (19-7, 12-4) and Rutgers (8-19, 0-16) to the Devaney Center. 

First serve against the Nittany Lions on Friday, Nov. 19 is set for 8 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 20, the Huskers’ play host to the Scarlet Knights on Senior Night at 7 p.m.

Nebraska is tied with Wisconsin for the lead in the Big Ten standings at 13-3. The Huskers stayed at No. 11 in the AVCA national poll this week.
