CODY-KILGORE FENDS OFF POTTER-DIX, DOMINATES 6-MAN TITLE
The Cowboys of Cody-Kilgore entered the 6-Man state title game undefeated and ready to repeat their 2020 matchup with Potter-Dix.
Cody-Kilgore did it in spades, dominating the second half at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium by winning 65-37
The rest of the NSAA Football Championships will be played at Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium starting on Monday.
LOPER VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO JENNIES, AWAITS NCAA TOURNEY BID
The third-ranked Central Missouri Jennies got double digit kill totals from four different players and closed the fifth set on an 8-4 run to down 12th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney Friday night in Warrensburg, Mo.
Fourth-seeded UNK (25-6) sees a 12-match win streak end as well as a 16-match win streak in the MIAA Tourney. The Lopers last loss in this event was in the 2015 first round to UCM.
Kearney now hopes to make the NCAA Tournament for a 22nd straight year; the 64-team selection show airs Monday (Nov. 22) at 6:30 p.m.
LOPER FOOTBALL HITS THE ROAD FOR FIRST PLAYOFF MATCHUP SINCE 2011
For the first time since 2011, the Lopers are back in the playoffs and hitting the road to take on former RMAC rival Western Colorado in Gunnison, CO.
The last meeting between the two was in 2011, a game in which UNK won 55-14.
Western is in the playoffs for the first time since 1997. UNK will have to tame the blitz of the Moutaineers who are second in D2 in sacks.
The game kicks off at 2 PM and can be seen across the RMAC Network.
HUSKER VOLLEYBALL CRUISES PAST PENN STATE ON “SENIOR NIGHT”
The 11th-ranked Nebraska volleyball team took care of business in a Senior Night sweep Friday night, defeating No. 15 Penn State 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-23) at the Devaney Center. The Huskers’ win in their regular-season home finale improves them to 20-6 (14-3 Big Ten) on the season, while the Nittany Lions drop to 19-8 (12-5).
NU snapped PSU’s four-match win streak.
Madi Kubik led the Huskers with 12 kills and added three digs, two blocks and an ace.
With its Saturday, Nov. 20 match against Rutgers cancelled, Nebraska now looks to its final weekend of Big Ten play. The Huskers visit Wisconsin on Friday, Nov. 26, with first serve set for 4:30 p.m. in Madison, Wis.
HUSKER MEN REBOUND WITH WIN AGAINST IDAHO STATE
Derrick Walker Jr. tied a career-high with 14 points to lead four Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska shot season-high 54 percent in a 78-60 win over Idaho State Friday night.
Walker, who went 5-of-5 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line, matched his career high of 14 set against Rutgers last season, helping Nebraska improve to 2-2 on the season.
The Huskers return to action on Sunday afternoon, as they host the Southern Jaguars. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be carried on ESPNU and on the Huskers Radio Network.
STORM CONTINUE WINNING STREAK
The Tri-City Storm increased its season high winning streak to seven consecutive games in a 10-2 thrashing over the Des Moines Buccaneers at the Viaero Center on Friday night. Tri-City specialty teams shined in the victory, scoring four powerplay goals and one shorthanded goal. The Storm fell one goal short of tying the organization’s record for most goals scored in a single game
Puck drop for tonight’s rematch between the Buccaneers and Storm is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
HUSKER WOMEN CLOSE HOME STAND ON SATURDAY
The Nebraska women’s basketball team wraps up its five-game season-opening home stand by playing host to North Carolina Central this afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Tip-off between the Huskers (4-0) and the Eagles (0-3) is set for Noon (CT)
Nebraska opened its home stand with a 4-0 record, including a 67-62 win over in-state rival Creighton at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
Nebraska will be gunning for its second five-game winning streak to open a season since 2019-20.
