COLUMBUS – In yet another dominating performance, Kearney’s boys basketball team exploded past another northeast Nebraska team and earned their first win in the new Columbus High School gym as they blew past the Discoverers 84-44. Click here to listen to the broadcast.
In the opening minutes of the game, Kearney had a brief back-and-forth with Columbus trading three-point plays with Jack Dahlgren hitting a runner with the and-one free throw attached. Meanwhille it was Taden Bell for Columbus knocking down three pointers from the corner, as Columbus kept within reach. The Bearcats were not on the road to play a tug-of-war for close games, as the Bearcats exploded past Columbus enroute to a 31 point first quarter. Jack Mundorf accelerated the hot start with three triples in the quarter, with Parker Wise and Dahlgren each adding their own three pointer. Add in Cole Feddersen’s 5 points, and the Bearcats lead was at 31-14.

Kearney then flexed its defensive prowess, preventing easy lanes to the bucket and forcing Columbus to travel all 90 feet and earn every inch with an unrelenting full-court pressure. Columbus was outscored 16-14 in the second, 17-11 in the third, and 20 to 9 in the fourth. Many reserves saw action throughout the contest, and Kearney earned their third win on the year, finishing an 84-44 road win.
Kearney had contributions from Wise with 18 points, Dahlgren with 17 points, Mundorf and Karter Lee each having 11 points, Feddersen with 9, Tristan Mailahn had 5, Kaden Miller with 4, and Ty Lightle and Arnold finishing with 2 each.
The Bearcats have a week off for the holiday break before heading to the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament in two weeks.
