NEBRASKA WOMEN SHOOT TO 12-0 AGAINST WYOMING:

Annika Stewart erupted for a career-high 21 points and Jaz Shelley notched her third double-double of the season to lead Nebraska to a 72-61 women’s basketball win over defending Mountain West Conference champion Wyoming on Wednesday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Nebraska completed just the second undefeated non-conference campaign in school history by knocking off its third 2021 NCAA Tournament team and its third defending conference champion. The Big Red improved to 12-0 with a perfect 11-0 non-conference record, joining the 2009-10 Huskers as the only Nebraska women’s basketball teams to go through non-conference play unbeaten.

Nebraska returns to Big Ten road competition on Thursday, Dec. 30, when the Huskers travel to East Lansing to battle Michigan State. Tip-off with the Spartans is set for 1 p.m.

WILLIAMS – A MERRIER CHRISTMAS WITH WIN

Head Coach of the still undefeated Nebraska Women’s Basketball team Amy Williams was happy to see another win for the Huskers, but thought it could have been a stronger performance… 

The Huskers are off until December 30 when they return to Big Ten play against Michigan State. 

 

WILLIAMS –  IMPRESSED BY WYOMING

Head Coach for the Nebraska Women’s Basketball team Amy Williams was impressed by last year’s Mountain West Conference champion Wyoming after Nebraska notched its twelfth win on the season… 

Williams and the Huskers downed Wyoming on Wednesday afternoon and improved to 12-0 on the year. 

 

HUSKER MEN FIND SHOOTING TOUCH, DOWN KENNESAW STATE:

In its last game before a 10-day holiday break, Nebraska men’s basketball put on its best long-distance shooting performance of the season, stopped a five-game losing skid, and closed out its non conference slate with an 88-74 win Wednesday night over Kennesaw State at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Freshman Keisei Tominaga led the Huskers with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 4-of-7 from long range. Senior point guard Alonzo Verge stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, 12 assists, seven boards, and three steals

Nebraska led by as many as 25 points, fueled by a scorching 15-of-29 three-point shooting exhibition

The team will have four days off for the holidays to spend with family and friends. The next practice is the evening of Monday, Dec. 27, with the next game against Ohio State in Lincoln on Sunday, Jan. 2.

HOIBERG – TEAM CONTINUED TO WORK, SHOWED UP IN WIN

Nebraska Men’s Basketball Head Coach Fred Hoiberg was proud of his team’s grit and effort after snapping their 5 game losing streak and downing Kennesaw State on Wednesday night… 

The Huskers improved to 6-7 overall as they hit the holiday break.

 

HOIBERG – OPEN LOOKS CREATED BY GOOD PASSING

Nebraska Men’s Basketball coach Fred Hoiberg was pleased to see some top notch performances from some of his best players on Wednesday night’s win over Kennesaw State, including another stellar day by Alonze Verge… 

The Huskers snapped a 5 game losing skid in the process. 

 

KELLY HUNTER PROMOTED TO ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH

Volunteer assistant coach Kelly Hunter has been promoted to a full-time assistant coach for the Nebraska volleyball program, head coach John Cook announced Wednesday.

Following her professional playing career overseas, Hunter joined the Husker staff two years ago. She has served in multiple roles as a volunteer assistant (2020-21), interim assistant coach (January-August 2020) and graduate assistant (2019). She fulfilled her stint as an interim assistant coach in 2020 while former associate head coach Tyler Hildebrand prepared for the 2020 Olympic Games prior to his arrival in Lincoln.

Hunter set the Huskers to national championships in 2015 and 2017 and was a two-time All-American. She was also the 2017 Big Ten Setter of the Year and a two-time All-Big Ten selection. The three-year Husker captain received numerous honors from volleyball publications, including National Player of the Year and All-America first-team honors

 

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL MAY LOSE ASSISTANT

According to the website FootballScoop.com, Oregon is targeting Nebraska defensive line coach Tony Tuioti.

The Ducks recently hired Dan Lanning from Georgia, who served as Kirby Smart’s defensive coordinator.

Lanning is in the process of filling out his coaching staff, as the Ducks still have one game remaining against Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

Two sources with knowledge of the situation at NU told HuskerOnline on Tuesday all signs point to Tuioti taking the job in Eugene at this point.

It should also be noted that the Huskers just recently offered Tuioti’s son Teivis Tuioti at Nevada in the transfer portal, and they have an offer to his other son Teitum Tuioti, who is a 2023 OLB prospect at Lincoln Southeast.

 

NEBRASKA VOLLEYBALL ASSISTANT REYES EARNS PROMOTION
Nebraska head volleyball coach John Cook announced Tuesday that assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Jaylen Reyes will move into the Huskers’ lead assistant role following the departure of associate head coach Tyler Hildebrand.

Hildebrand was announced Sunday as the new head women’s volleyball coach at Long Beach State.

Reyes joined the Nebraska staff in March 2018. As the Huskers’ recruiting coordinator, he has helped NU land the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class for 2021 and the No. 2 class for 2022, according to PrepVolleyball.com.

Nebraska Women’s Basketball Head Coach Amy Williams joined Sports Nightly on Tuesday night spoke on how the non-conference slate has aided in preparing the Huskers for the Big Ten… 

Williams continued by saying that the Big Ten will be a tough test, but her Huskers have continued to get better each game during their 11 game winning streak.
