NEBRASKA WOMEN BLOW PAST TOP TEN MICHIGAN:

Freshman Alexis Markowski erupted for a career-high 20 points in her first career start, while Jaz Shelley added her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead Nebraska to an impressive 79-58 women’s basketball win over No. 8 Michigan on Tuesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers improved to 13-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten.

The 21-point win over the Wolverines (12-2, 3-1 Big Ten) marked Nebraska’s first win over a top-10 AP foe since defeating No. 9 Duke at Pinnacle Bank Arena in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in December of 2014. The Huskers defeated five AP top-25 teams a year ago, including three teams ranked No. 15 at game time.

The victory was Nebraska’s 10th straight at home, as the Huskers improved to 9-0 in Lincoln this season, while snapping Michigan’s five-game winning streak that included back-to-back victories over No. 5 Baylor and No. 25 Ohio State.

Nebraska continues Big Ten home action on Sunday when the Huskers play host to No. 21 Iowa. Tip-off between the Big Red and the Hawkeyes is set for 1 p.m.

NEBRASKA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL POSTGAME COMMENTS:

WILLIAMS – GRITTY & PROUD PERFORMANCE

Nebraska Women’s Basketball Head Coach Amy Williams said in her postgame interview in a shocking 79-58 win over Top Ten Michigan that she was proud of the effort from her team…

The Nebraska Women are now 13-1 on the season and take on No. 21 Iowa on Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

WILLIAMS – TONE WAS SET EARLY FOR BIG WIN AGAINST MICHIGAN

Amy Williams, Head Coach of Nebraska Basketball, led the Huskers to an upset over No. 8 Michigan on Tuesday night. Williams added in her postgame comments that the tone for the upset was set early and often against the Wolverines best star…

The Huskers now await No. 21 Iowa in another homestand on Sunday. Nebraska has not lost at Pinnacle Bank Arena yet this season.

WILLIAMS – MARKOWSKI IMPRESSED IN UPSET WIN

Freshman Alexis Markowski from Lincoln Pius dominated in the upset win with her career high of 20 points in her first career start for the Huskers as Nebraska downed No. 8 Michigan on Tuesday night.

Head Coach Amy Williams adds its hard not to like the performance from the freshman…

Markowski was also taking in her first career start on Tuesday. The Huskers take on No. 21 Iowa on Sunday at PBA.

NEBRASKA MEN TANGLE WITH MICHIGAN STATE:

Nebraska faces its second straight ranked opponent tonight, as the Huskers begin a two-game road trip with a matchup against No. 10/10 (AP/Coaches) Michigan State. Tipoff at the Breslin Center is slated for 6 p.m. (central)

The Huskers (6-8, 0-3 Big Ten) had a golden opportunity for a marquee win, but No. 13 Ohio State rallied for an 87-79 overtime win over the Huskers on Sunday.

Michigan State (12-2, 3-0) comes into Wednesday’s game riding a seven-game winning streak following a 73-67 win at Northwestern on Sunday.

The Huskers will stay on the road following tonight’s game, as Nebraska travels to Rutgers for an early tipoff on Saturday (1 p.m. on BTN).

UNK MEN’S CONTEST WITH LINCOLN POSTPONED:

The Nebraska-Kearney/Lincoln University men’s basketball game scheduled for January 6 (Thurs.) at the Health & Sports Center has been postponed due COVID issues within the Blue Tigers program.

The game will be made up later this winter. The UNK/LU women’s game remains as scheduled and will tip at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday brings Central Missouri to the Health & Sports Center to compete against UNK.

THREE-STAR CORNERBACK TO VISIT HUSKERS IN LATE JANUARY

Alabama three-star defensive back Kylon Griffin committed to Mississippi State back in March of 2021, but he re-opened his recruitment in early December to find a better fit in a college program for him personally.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Griffin did not sign in the early NCAA period and he has now set up January official visits with both Nebraska and Clemson as the February signing date approaches.

Griffin has unofficially visited Tennessee and Mississippi State, but he has not taken any officials yet.
