The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Thompson made his intentions known on Twitter. He officially entered the transfer portal on Dec. 19 and is expected to be in Lincoln on Monday for the start of winter workouts.

Thompson is the son of former Oklahoma starting quarterback Charles Thompson. The two visited Lincoln on Jan. 5 for a self-guided tour of the campus

As a fourth-year sophomore, Thompson completed 165-of-261 passes for 2,113 yards, 24 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also had 209 scramble rushing yards and 41 yards of designed runs, scoring four rushing touchdowns.

Thompson comes to NU with two years of eligibility remaining.

NEBRASKA MEN AIM TO REGAIN WINNING WAYS AT RUTGERS

Nebraska wraps up a two-game road trip Saturday afternoon, as the Huskers travel to Rutgers for a matchup with the Scarlet Knights. Tipoff from Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, N.J. is slated for shortly after 1 p.m

The Huskers (6-9, 0-4 Big Ten) came off a 79-67 loss at No. 10 Michigan State on Wednesday.

Rutgers (8-5, 2-1 Big Ten) has won three straight games since returning from its pause on Dec. 30, culminating with a 75-67 victory over Michigan on Tuesday evening.

The matchup with Rutgers continues a challenging stretch for the Huskers, as NU’s first five games in January are all against teams which made the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Following Saturday’s game, the Huskers will host Illinois on Tuesday before traveling to No. 3 Purdue on Friday.

Tri-City hits the ice again on Saturday, January 8th, in a road game against the Waterloo Black Hawks. Puck drop for the game is set for 6:05pm CT

LOPER WRESTLING FINISHES THIRD IN KENTUCKY:

The fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team easily got past Newberry (S.C.) College, 47-3, to place third at the 2022 U.S. Marine Corps/NWCA Multi-Division National Duals Friday evening in Louisville, Ky.

The two-day, double elimination tournament featured brackets in NCAA Divisions II & and III, the NAIA, junior college and women’s ranks.

The Lopers fell to second-ranked and defending national champion St. Cloud State, 19-14, in one semifinal match. The Huskies (8-1) went on to lose to top-ranked and top-seeded Central Oklahoma in the finals by the same score.

UNK hosts Grand View (Ia.) next Saturday at the Health & Sports Center.

NEBRASKA WRESTLING FALTERS AGAINST PURDUE:

The No. 8 Nebraska wrestling team battled No. 18 Purdue to the end but ultimately it was the Boilermakers (6-2, 1-0 Big Ten) who secured an 18-15 triumph in front of 1,702 fans at the Devaney Center on Friday night.

Up next, the Big Red travel to No. 13 Minnesota (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) to continue conference competition on Jan. 14.

HUSKER WOMEN LOOK TO SHOOT DOWN HAWKEYES ON SUNDAY:

The Nebraska women’s basketball team continues Big Ten Conference home action when the Huskers play host to No. 22/21 Iowa on Sunday in Lincoln.

The game between the Huskers (13-1, 2-1 Big Ten) and the Hawkeyes (7-4, 1-1 Big Ten) is set for 1 p.m. (CT) at Pinnacle Bank Arena
