(DOJ) – United States Attorney Jan Sharp announced that Willis Parker, age 31, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced today in federal court in Omaha for possessing destructive devices.  United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher sentenced Parker to 37 months of imprisonment.  There is no parole in the federal system.  After completing his term of imprisonment, Parker will begin a 2-year term of supervised release.

On November 23, 2020, officers executed a search warrant at Parker’s Omaha residence.  Officers located methamphetamine, marijuana, and seven destructive devices.  The destructive devices were similar to a bomb and composed of a cardboard cylinder with a fuse.  The cylinders contained aluminum and potassium perchlorate which could explode if confined and ignited.  None of the destructive devices were registered to Parker in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The Department of Justice reinvigorated PSN in 2017 as part of the Department’s renewed focus on targeting violent criminals, directing all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to work in partnership with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement and the local community to develop effective, locally based strategies to reduce violent crime.

The case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
