ALBERTS RESTRUCTURES HOIBERG TO REMAIN AS HEAD MENS BASKETBALL COACH:
In a statement released Thursday night, Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts announced that Head Men’s Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg has had his contract restructured to remain in place as Head Coach for Husker basketball.
In the statement, Alberts explained that after several meetings with Hoiberg both agreed the team’s results were not acceptable, and that for the interest of the Nebraska Athletic Department long-term, both parties agreed to re-work the third year head coach’s contract.
Hoiberg added he’s excited to continue to be the head coach for Nebraska, and that he appreciates the confidence Alberts showed to him to build a successful basketball program.

NEBRASKA MEN FINISH REGULAR SEASON FRIDAY AGAINST IOWA:
The Nebraska men’s basketball team takes the Pinnacle Bank Arena court for the final time in 2021-22 on Friday night as the Huskers host the No. 25 Iowa Hawkeyes. Tipoff at PBA is shortly after 8 p.m. and the game will be carried on FS1 and the Huskers Radio Network
Nebraska will honor seven players in pregame ceremonies and fans are encouraged to be at their seats by 7:40 p.m. for the start of the festivities.
The group includes seniors Alonzo Verge Jr., Trevor Lakes and Kobe Webster, as well as Derrick Walker, Lat Mayen, Trey McGowens and Chris McGraw. Walker, Mayen, McGowens and McGraw all could return for the 2022-23 season because of the eligibility freeze last season due to COVID-19.
STORM ACQUIRE NEW DEFENSEMAN THROUGH TRADE:
The Tri-City Storm has announced the acquisition of defenseman Matt Basgall from the Omaha Lancers in exchange for defenseman Nate Benoit. The transaction was completed in advance of the upcoming United States Hockey League (USHL) Trade Deadline on Monday, February 28th.
Matt Basgall, of Lake Forest, Illinois, has scored six goals and recorded 19 assists in 36 games played this season for the Omaha Lancers. Basgall is currently in his third full-time season in the USHL, and has netted nine goals and notched 37 assists in 125 career USHL games. He was drafted 73rd overall in the 5th round of the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft by the Storm. Basgall was traded to the Omaha Lancers in a package of players and draft assets on December 27th, 2018, in Tri-City’s acquisition of forward Brendan Furry
STORM SET TO HOST STAMPEDE AT VIAERO CENTER:

HUSKER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL USES SHELLEY’S BIG NIGHT FOR BADGERS SWEEP:
Jaz Shelley erupted for 20 points and buried four three-pointers to lead four Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska worked its way to an 80-70 women’s basketball road win at Wisconsin on Wednesday night at the Kohl Center.
Nebraska notched its eighth win in the last 11 games to improve to 21-7 overall and 10-7 in the Big Ten.
Nebraska closes Big Ten regular-season play when the Huskers return home to take on Northwestern Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip-off between the Big Red and the Wildcats is set for 3:30 p.m.

LOPER WOMEN FOLLOW CARLSON’S BIG NIGHT WITH WIN OVER NORTHWEST MISSOURI:
Brooke Carlson scored a career-high 23 points and Nebraska-Kearney shot 79 percent in the third quarter to turn back Northwest Missouri State, 68-51, Thursday night at the Health & Sports Center.
The Lopers (21-6, 16-5) add to their NCAA resume and down the Bearcats (17-10, 12-9) for a fifth straight time. UNK also remains in sole possession of the third place in the MIAA standings.
UNK hosts Missouri Western State on Friday night to close out the 2021-22 home slate. The Griffons (20-7, 14-7) nationally-ranked Fort Hays State for most of the way tonight but lost in overtime, 78-69.
UNK WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CLIMBS CENTRAL REGION RANKINGS:
The Nebraska-Kearney women’s basketball team moved up two spots to seventh in the latest edition of the NCAA Regional Rankings.
These rankings determine the 64-team NCAA Division II Tournament field in March. Eight teams from eight regions will be selected; the Lopers and MIAA compete in the Central Region along with the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conf. (NSIC) and Great American Conf. (GAC). The conference tournament winners receive automatic bids to the “Big Dance” with five at-large spots up for grabs. The top seed in each region hosts March 11-14.
UNK (21-6 overall; 18-6 D2 record) went 1-1 last week but Harding (Ark.) lost twice and Missouri Western State once.
UNK MENS BASKETBALL FIGHT WITH BEARCATS, FALL SHORT IN FINAL MINUTES:
Northwest Missouri State stars Diego Bernard and Trevor Hudgins combined for 42 points and the No. 8/13 Bearcats finished on an 18-8 run to get past Nebraska-Kearney, 77-67, Thursday night at the Health & Sports Center.
NK hosts Missouri Western (13-16, 9-12) on Friday night. The Griffons lost at Fort Hays State on Wednesday, 56-42.
HUSKER BASEBALL RETURNS TO TEXAS TO TAKE ON TCU:
The Nebraska baseball team returns to the Lone Star State this weekend, as the Huskers battle No. 17 TCU in a three-game series on Friday, Feb. 25-27 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
First pitch of the series opener is set for 6 p.m. (CT). The Huskers and Horned Frogs square off at 2 p.m. on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Nebraska went 1-3 in the season-opening series at Sam Houston last weekend in Huntsville, Texas.
