NEBRASKA FOOTBALL SPRING PRACTICE COMMENTS: MARK WHIPPLE:

WHIPPLE – NO ANIMOSITY IN QUARTERBACK ROOM

New Husker Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple spoke to the media after Wednesday’s practice and continues to double down that his quarterbacks are each fighting for the starting position, but continue to help and support each other’s growth…

Whipple has a decision to make on who will lead the Big Red offense in the fall between recent incumbent Logan Smothers, Texas transfer Casey Thompson, Florida State transfer Chubba Purdy, or Kearney Catholic’s Heinrich Haarberg.

WHIPPLE – RED ZONE TIGHT END WILL BE A BIG FACTOR:

Nebraska’s new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple spoke to the media after Wednesday’s practice saying although many tight ends have been out of practice due to injuries this spring session, he still believes the position to be critical when wanting to score touchdowns…

Whipple has an exciting arsenal this upcoming year, with Travis Vokalek, Thomas Fidone, Chancellor Brewington, and many unproven roster additions. Reported and rumored injuries to Vokalek and Fidone, however could derail progress at the position.

FORMER UNK SOCCER ALUM TO LEAD LEXINGTON VOLLEYBALL:

Former Kearney Catholic Star and UNK Soccer alum Allie Prososki is taking over the Lexington Minutemaid Volleyball program. Prososki is replacing Samantha Hammond who is joining the UNK program as an assistant.

Prososki was a three sport star at Kearney Catholic high school and went on to become an All MIAA Soccer player for the Lopers.

Prososki has been an assistant coach for the volleyball team for the past season.

ARIANS RETIRES FROM COACHING, BUCCANEERS NAME BOWLES NEW COACH:

Bruce Arians is stepping down as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and taking on a role in the front office as a “senior consultant for football,” he told Peter King of Pro Football Talk.

Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will take over as the team’s head coach. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bowles will receive a new five-year contract as head coach.

TIGER WOODS MAY COMPETE IN 2022 MASTERS:

Tiger Woods has made the trip to Augusta National Golf Club, but there has not been a formal announcement as to if the legendary golfer will compete in this year’s Masters.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Woods is still listed as a participant in the Masters after he was injured in a February 2021 car crash. Woods has not been included in the group of past champions who were sitting out. However, that could change as golfers have until tournament week to decide if they are playing.

HALLOWAY LEAVES PEACOCKS, JOINS ALMA MATER AT SETON HALL:

Shaheen Holloway was announced as the men’s basketball coach of Seton Hall Wednesday just days after he led Saint Peter’s on a historic Elite Eight run during the 2022 NCAA Tournament, according to the school.

Holloway was a player for Seton Hall when the Pirates made it to the Sweet 16 during the 2000 NCAA Tournament and had been linked to the job ever since Kevin Willard left the program for Maryland. Holloway, who was also an associate head coach for eight seasons under Willard at Seton Hall, said after his recent hiring that, “Life has a way of coming full circle.”

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL SPRING PRACTICE COMMENTS: MIKE DAWSON:

DAWSON – LEARNING HOW PLAYERS PERFORM WHILE FATIGUED

Outside Linebackers and defensive line coach Mike Dawson spoke to the media during Monday’s press conferences and addressed how he sees the opportunity to see his defenders play while tired in practice…

Dawson added that the inexperience on the defensive line does help in every position, continuing to learn new roles during spring camp.

DAWSON – SETTING GOOD HABITS IN SPRING:

Outside Linebackers and defensive line coach Mike Dawson spoke about his biggest goal for the spring practice period for the Huskers: setting good habits sooner rather than later…

Dawson has a mix of relative experience with his edge rusher group but will be bringing up inexperienced interior defensive lineman with the departure to Damion Daniels to the NFL.

DAWSON – NO GRADES SO FAR IN THE SPRING:

Nebraska football assistant coach Mike Dawson was asked to hand out grades to his defensive lineman and edge rushers at Monday’s spring practice press conference, but he felt that the grades may be incomplete so far…

The Huskers continue spring practices leading into their April 9 Spring Game at Memorial Stadium.
