NEBRASKA BASEBALL TRAVELS TO OMAHA FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT REMATCH:

Nebraska makes the short trip on I-80 to Omaha, as the Huskers take on the Mavericks on Wednesday, April 6 at Tal Anderson Field. First pitch between the Huskers and Mavericks is set for 6:30 p.m.

Nebraska swept a road series against Big Ten foe Ohio State last weekend. The Huskers scored a run in the first and second innings in the series opener and never gave up the lead, as Nebraska held on for a 5-3 win on Friday night. The Big Red clinched the series with a 10-5 victory on Saturday.

With 32 runs scored in last weekend’s series at Ohio State, Nebraska tied its highest total of runs in a three-game conference series on the road since joining the Big Ten.

Omaha is 11-14 (4-2 Summit League) on the season after winning two of three games on the road last weekend against Summit League foe Oral Roberts.

Nebraska leads the all-time series over Omaha, 61-11.

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL SPRING PRACTICE COMMENTS:

TREY PALMER – A REAL BROTHERHOOD AT NEBRASKA:

Many fresh faces have been added to the Nebraska Football roster since the conclusion of the 2021 season. One of those additions was LSU transfer Trey Palmer, who said after Monday’s practices that he’s been happy to create new bonds in Lincoln…

Palmer comes from LSU with the expectation for some wide receiver work and to be featured in the kick and punt return game.

TOMMI HILL – COMPETITION FIERCE IN PRACTICES

New Nebraska transfers Tommi Hill and Trey Palmer have been competing fiercely since both arrived on campus. Palmer, working mainly in the slot during spring practices, has faced off against incoming defensive back Hill, who said in his Monday media session he welcomes the challenge…

Hill has been turning heads this spring and could be in line for a future role on the Blackshirts.

TOMMI HILL – FISCHER TRUSTS ME IN MAN COVERAGE

Defensive backs have been a question mark coming into spring practice for the Nebraska Football team after the graduation of Cam Taylor-Britt, JoJo Domann, and Deontai Williams. Transfer Tommi Hill has been impressive in

Hill will show of his skills in the Red-White Spring Game on Saturday in Memorial Stadium.

KANSAS WINS FOURTH NATIONAL TITLE IN ALL-TIME COMEBACK:

Kansas won its fourth NCAA men’s basketball national championship Monday night, securing a 72-69 comeback win over North Carolina in New Orleans.

The victory was very different from Kansas’ Final Four matchup against Villanova, which was a wire-to-wire win. Kansas went into the half down 40-25 and then stormed back to outscore North Carolina by 18 points in the second half. The 15-point comeback is the biggest in championship history.

KU’s Ochai Agbaji (OH-Chi Ah-bah-gee) was named the most outstanding player of the Final Four.

The championship is Bill Self’s second as Kansas head coach. His first came in 2008.

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL PRACTICE COMMENTS: SCOTT FROST:

FROST – EVERYONE GOT BETTER OVER SPRING BALL

The Nebraska Football team wraps up their spring practices this week with the annual Red-White Spring Game on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Despite a disappointing start to the final week of spring camp, Head Coach Scott Frost said it has been an enjoyable few weeks…

The Huskers take Tom Osborne Field at Memorial Stadium on Saturday in the Spring Game that will be carried on KGFW with pregame coverage beginning at 11 AM.

FROST – NEED MORE CONSISTENCY AND LESS TURNOVERS

Head Coach Scott Frost spoke to the media after Monday’s spring practice session and stated he is still waiting to see more consistency from his offense…

Something that could aid the offense would be naming the starter under center: currently Casey Thompson, Logan Smothers, Heinrich Haarberg, and Chubba Purdy remain in contention for the Number 1 role behind center.

FROST – PALMER’S DEVELOPMENT COULD BE SPECIAL

A bevy of transfers arrived to Lincoln over the off-season to infuse more talent into the Nebraska football roster. One of the big names included wide receiver Trey Palmer from LSU, switching from Tiger purple to Cornhusker Red.

Head Coach Scott Frost said it has been fun to watch the ultra-talented athlete perform this spring…

Palmer arrived on campus with assistant coach Mickey Joseph and could be a factor in the kick return game, where he has two career special team returns for touchdowns.

FROST – STILL WORK TO DO AFTER SPRING BALL:

Head Coach for the Nebraska Football team Scott Frost spoke after his media session on Monday and said although spring practices are wrapping up, there is still plenty of work left to be done – especially on the offensive side of the ball…

Frost and the Huskers will show off their new offense and talent infusion from the off-season in the Red-White Spring Game set for Saturday at Memorial Stadium at 1 PM.

FORMAT CHANGES COULD BE COMING TO RED-WHITE SPRING GAME:

The format of Saturday’s Nebraska football spring game is still being determined.

Coach Scott Frost said after Monday’s practice that he’d prefer the traditional full two-team format of Reds vs. Whites, but that might not be doable because of injuries. A possible alternative would be an offense-vs.-defense setup similar to what was used in the 2014 spring game.

In the 2014 matchup, the Red “Offense” won 55-46 while the White “Defense” was awarded points for stout stops.

WOODS RETURNING TO MASTERS:

Tiger Woods is returning to the Masters and will compete. Woods is scheduled to tee off for the first round of the 2022 Masters in Augusta at 10:34 AM Thursday morning.

The 15-time majors champion has been away from competitive golf for over a year, having suffered serious leg injuries in a car crash back in February 2021.

LAKERS ELIMINATED FROM PLAYOFF CONTENTION:

The Los Angeles Lakers were at their best before the season started — when on paper and per the oddsmakers they were considered among the favorites to win the NBA title.

By once the games began, the Lakers were average, and by the final of week of the season, they weren’t very good at all — a $150 million roster with big names and nothing to show for it.

The Lakers were eliminated from postseason contention with Tuesday’s 121-110 loss to the Phoenix Suns, an appropriate and disappointing conclusion to the 2021-22 season.
