KEARNEY HIGH BASEBALL RAINED OUT IN GAME 2; FALL IN GAME 1 TO JAYS:
The Creighton Prep Junior Jays were as good as advertised, using a 5 run bottom of the fifth inning to win Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Kearney Bearcats 9-3. In Game 2, Creighton Prep had garnered 3 runs in the first, 2 runs in the second, and had added three runs in the third before several rain, hail, then lightning delays called off the contest in the bottom of the third.
Creighton Prep ended the second contest leading 8-1. The second contest will go down as canceled as the game did not go to a fifth inning to determine a winner. It will not go for or against either side.
The loss in Game 1 drops Kearney to 11-7 on the season as the Bearcats lick their wounds and head to Norfolk for a triangular against the Panthers and Omaha South on Saturday.
Kearney returns home on Tuesday to take on Bellevue East.
LOPER FOOTBALL SPRING GAME CONCLUDES SPRING PRACTICES SATURDAY:
The Nebraska-Kearney football team will conclude spring practice with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
The Lopers have been divided into “Blue” and “Gold” teams with the scrimmage consisting of four quarters lasting 10 minutes each with a running clock. When a squad attempts a field goal or PAT, all three Loper kickers will get a chance, meaning a possession could yield as many as nine points.
Fall camp begins in early August with the 2022 season opener set for Thursday, Sept. 1, at Missouri Southern State.
NEBRASKA BASEBALL BATTLES INDIANA IN BLOOMINGTON:

Indiana enters the weekend with a 14-22 overall record and 2-7 mark in Big Ten play. In their four meetings last season, Nebraska and Indiana split two games in Piscataway, N.J. The Huskers swept the Hoosiers in Bloomington, with wins of 8-5 and 3-1 against the 25th-ranked Hoosiers.

Sophomore Madison Dewitt tossed a two-hitter in game one, freshman Janine Gutierrez threw 123 pitches in game two and Newman racked up 19 singles to take a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 4-1 and 11-9, Thursday afternoon at Patriot Park.
These games were originally set for Saturday afternoon but moved up two days because of weather.
UNK (22-20, 12-8) slips to sixth in the MIAA standings; the top eight teams qualify for the MIAA Tournament May 4-7 in Edmond, Okla. The Lopers face No. 4 Central Oklahoma (38-6, 17-1) today and are at No. 8 Rogers State (38-6, 15-3) and Northeastern State (23-20, 11-7) next weekend to close out the regular season.
The double header vs. UCO is at 12 and 2 p.m.

The Huskers have won their last 18 games with an offense that leads the Big Ten in numerous categories including batting average, runs, hits, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks and on-base percentage.
Wisconsin (23-11) is 8-4 in conference play. The Badgers are coming off of a three-game series sweep over the Michigan State Spartans. UW also claimed the series sweep over Iowa in week one.
HUSKER VOLLEYBALL HOSTS KANSAS IN GRAND ISLAND:
The Nebraska volleyball team plays its only spring match of the season when it heads to Grand Island to face Kansas on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Heartland Events Center.
Saturday’s match will be televised statewide on Nebraska Public Media. A free live stream will be available to watch at NebraskaPublicMedia.org.
Tickets for Saturday’s match went on sale on March 10 and approximately 6,000 tickets were sold out within 10 minutes.
Nebraska is coming off a 26-8 season (15-4 Big Ten) and an NCAA runner-up finish. Entering the NCAA Tournament with a 21-7 record and a lineup featuring four freshmen in the rotation, the 10th-seeded Huskers peaked at the right time, knocking off the No. 2 Texas Longhorns on their way to an NCAA Semifinals appearance. After a 3-1 win over No. 3 Pittsburgh, NU got a third chance against Big Ten champion Wisconsin in the NCAA Final. The match went to five sets, where the Huskers fell behind 7-0. A furious rally pulled the Huskers to within 14-12, but ultimately Wisconsin edged NU for the crown.
