HUSKER BASEBALL OPENS SERIES WITH LOSS TO SPARTY:
Nebraska threatened in the bottom of the ninth but couldn’t rally to plate the tying run, as the Huskers suffered a 4-1 loss vs. Michigan State at Hawks Field on Thursday night.
With Minnesota’s 15-14 win vs. Northwestern tonight, Nebraska still has a path to the Big Ten Baseball Tournament in Omaha. The Huskers must win the next two against the Spartans and need Maryland to sweep Purdue to secure the final spot.
Nebraska (21-30, 8-14 Big Ten) had one run on eight hits and an error, while the Spartans (24-28, 8-14 Big Ten) totaled four runs on 10 hits.
Nebraska and Michigan State continue the series tonight at Hawks Field.

CHANGES TO NSAA STATE BASKETBALL FORMAT:
The girls and boys state basketball tournament will have a new format for the third year in a row.
While a three-day tournament had been the norm in previous years, the NSAA approved a change to a four-day state tournament format at its monthly board of directors meeting on Friday.
Each of the girls and boys state basketball tournaments will now run from Wednesday to Saturday, with a day of rest for the classes that begin play on Wednesday.
Notably, Lincoln Public Schools sites will be no longer be used for any state basketball contests other than third-place games. Fan experience, including seating limits and parking availability, was a major consideration in the NSAA’s decision to move contests out of the LPS gyms.
Instead, Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Devaney Center will host all of the state tournament games.
