Acting United States Attorney Steven Russell announced that Jose Rodriguez-Medina, 37, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced on May 31, 2022, in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska, for possession of a machine gun. Senior United States District Judge Joseph F. Bataillon sentenced Rodriguez-Medina to 36 months’ imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. After his release from prison, he will begin a three-year term of supervised release.
On March 9, 2021, Nebraska State Patrol stopped Rodriguez-Medina for a traffic violation in North Platte. The trooper detected the odor of marijuana and conducted a probable cause search and located 13 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the center console. Rodriguez-Medina notified law enforcement of the Glock 21, which is a machine gun, in the trunk of the vehicle. The gun was modified to be fully automatic by utilizing a Glock “switch.” The “switch” converts any Glock pistol into a fully automatic weapon.
This case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol.
