RUNZA SENIORS BATTLE COLUMBUS CORNERSTONE IN REMATCH:

Due to inclement weather last night, the Kearney Runza Seniors contest with GI Home Federal was postponed to a later date. Tonight, Kearney Baseball faces another rematch of the young season with Columbus Cornerstone.

On May 31, Kearney fell to Columbus 3-1 from a no-hitter from Tadan Bell. The Runza Seniors look to overcome Cornerstone tonight at home at Memorial Field. Tonight is also Fan Appreciation night, as there is free admission to the contest and door prizes available all night. Free-will donation meals of pulled pork sandwiches are also available for fans.

Pregame coverage on KGFW begins at 7:15 PM with first pitch at 7:30 PM. Join Austin Jacobsen on the call from 1340 AM, 96.1 FM, on the free KGFW mobile app, and on KGFW.com.

MORE HUSKER CHANGES TO NEBRASKA BASEBALL ROSTER:

As new faces come in for the Nebraska baseball team, others continue to exit stage left.

Pitcher Koty Frank is leaving Nebraska and entering the transfer portal for his final year of eligibility. Frank made the announcement via Twitter on Tuesday.

During the 2022 season, Frank pitched 59 innings and had 70 strikeouts in 14 games.  He ended the season with a 5-0 record and a 3.81 ERA. He was also named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week in April.

Meanwhile, Cam Chick has chosen to enter the transfer portal for his final year of eligibility. It comes days after Chick announced that he would forgo his last year of eligibility and finish out his schooling at the university.

Chick ended the 2022 season with 43 hits, 8 home runs and a .251 batting average in 48 games.

MALCOLM SELECTED AS MIAA MALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR:

More Loper awards rolled in from the past athletic season, as the MIAA announced its 2021-22 Ken. B Jones winners at the Association’s 2022 Award Celebration. The male winner was Matt Malcom (wrestling) of UNK.

Earlier in the evening, UNK took home the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Cup.

During this past year, Malcolm was a “COVID-senior” wrestling student-athlete from Glenwood, Ia. Beginning his career at the University of Iowa in 2016-17, he helped lead the Lopers to the 2022 National Title with a program-record 127.0 points.
