HUSKERS ADD COLORADO NATIVE LINEBACKER TO 2023 CLASS:
Just a couple days after returning home from his latest official visit, Hayden Moore, the three-star linebacker out of Aurora (Colo.) Regis Jesuit announced his commitment to Nebraska on Tuesday, giving the Cornhuskers another pledge from a talented prospect on the defensive side of the ball.
Moor is the nation’s No. 90 rated linebacker and No. 9 overall prospect in the state of Colorado for the 2023 class, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings. He kicked off his round of official visits with a stop at Iowa State and also had the likes of Iowa, Michigan and UCLA high on his list of college options.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Moore said he intends to pursue two sports in Lincoln in football and baseball.
UNK MEN’S BASKETBALL ADDS KIRKWOOD TRANSFER:
Nebraska-Kearney head men’s basketball coach Kevin Lofton announced today that guard Jaleque Dunson will hit the hardwood for the Lopers this winter.
The 6-3, 190-pound native of Sioux City, Ia., is UNK’s eighth newcomer to date. Including his “COVID year”, he has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Dunson spent the past two years at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Ia. For an Eagles team that went 23-8 in 2021-22, Dunson came in at 8.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists a night. Appearing in all 31 games with 21 starts, he sunk the second most threes (58) on the team, shot 83% from the line and had 12 double digit efforts.
LIGHTNING LOOK TO EVEN SERIES AGAINST AVALANCHE IN GAME 4:
So much for the notion that the Tampa Bay Lightning might be running out of gas against the speedy Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final.
Turns out the team’s recipe for postseason success still works when the two-time defending champions incorporate all the ingredients.
The Lightning still trail the best-of-seven series 2-1 after bouncing back from the most lopsided playoff loss in franchise history to beat the Avalanche in Game 3.
Game 4 is tonight at Amalie Arena, with Colorado looking to move within one victory of its first Stanley Cup title since 2001 and Tampa Bay continuing its bid for the NHL’s first three-peat in nearly 40 years.
WATSON SETTLES 20 SUITS, AWAITS NFL SUSPENSION:
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson’s decision to settle 20 of 24 civil lawsuits for sexual misconduct may not dissuade the NFL from giving him a lengthy suspension, a person familiar with the league’s investigation told the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Watson has been accused by massage therapists of harassing, assaulting or touching them during appointments when he played for the Houston Texans.
Watson still faces discipline from the league, which conducted its own investigation into the 26-year-old’s behavior and is expected to make a decision before the Browns open training camp on July 27.
GRONK RETIRES… AGAIN:
Rob Gronkowski won’t be joining Tom Brady for a third season with the Buccaneers.
The four-time All-Pro tight end announced his retirement for the second time in three years on Tuesday. In an Instagram post, Gronkowski thanked his teammates and coaches over the years and said he’s going back to “chilling out.”
Gronkowski won four Super Bowls with Brady, including three in New England.
