RUNZA SENIORS ALL STARS SET TO COMPETE IN HASTINGS:

Select players from area Legion Baseball teams have been hand-picked to participate in the All-Star contests in Hastings tonight.

Representing the Kearney Runza Seniors in the Cornhusker League All-Star game is pitcher Blake Rehtus, first baseman and reserve catcher Nolan Smith, and catcher Ty Redinger.

The Kearney Seniors battle GI U-Save Pharmacy tomorrow on the road to kick up action once again.

FOUR STAR RECEIVER JOINS HUSKERS 2023 CLASS:

Nebraska landed a commitment on Tuesday from wide receiver Omarion Miller, one of the team’s top targets on offense.

The addition of Miller gives Nebraska three wide receivers in the 2023 class and Miller becomes the highest ranked player to join the Huskers. Miller was previously committed to LSU, but opened things up ahead of an official visit to Lincoln at the beginning of June.

The connection to Miller for Nebraska stems from Mickey Joseph, who helped get the receiver committed to LSU, and now again with the Huskers after changing jobs in December.

The news comes off the heels of Saturday’s commitment from Georgia recruit Barry Jackson’s announcement to Nebraska.

MORE CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT CONTINUING IN BIG TEN, BIG 12:

The Big 12 is “involved in deep discussions” about adding Pac-12 teams, according to CBS Sports.

The Big 12 reportedly wants to add at least four teams and is targeting Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah. Oregon and Washington are also in the mix to join and make the Big 12 an 18-team conference

Last week, USC and UCLA left the Pac-12 for the Big Ten, where they are set to begin play in 2024. The Big Ten will have 16 teams, which will match the SEC’s new alignment when Texas and Oklahoma join.

The Big 12 added BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston last month to begin play in 2023. Expanding by four more teams would bring membership up to 16 to match the other large conferences.

The Pac-12 is down to 10 members, but it is also looking at adding teams. The Big Ten has also had discussions to add Oregon and Washington, as well as continued waiting from Notre Dame.

MEMBER OF EMPORIA STATE FOOTBALL DECEASED IN CLIFF-DIVING ACCIDENT:

Brexten Green, a wide receiver on the Emporia State football team, died over the weekend in a cliff-diving accident at Grand Lake in Oklahoma, the university announced Tuesday.

The Grand River Dam Authority received an emergency around 6:30 p.m. Saturday about a man who jumped into Grand Lake around Dripping Springs and didn’t resurface. Rescue crews found his body in 31 feet of water.

Green came to Emporia State from Cashion High School in Cashion, Oklahoma. He was set to start his second year after redshirting last season and was seeking a business administration degree

FORMER HUSKER HOOPS’ STAR ROBY WAIVED BY THUNDER:

The Oklahoma City Thunder have waived forward Isaiah Roby from the roster.

Following his college career at Nebraska, Roby netted the highest second-round pick salary in history, to that point, earning a $1.5 million starting salary with the Dallas Mavericks. After a mid-season deal sent Roby to Oklahoma City, he found his footing, logging 109 appearances across three seasons.

Roby played a significant role in the Thunder’s developmental process, starting in 62 games in the last two years for the franchise. As a Thunder, the former Cornhusker averaged 9.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per contest.

Despite posting a career-best 10.1 points and recording a 44.4% output from distance this season, the Thunder struggled to field Roby consistent minutes with Jeremiah Robinson-Earl absorbing much of his role.

TREY McGOWENS SIGNS WITH CLIPPERS FOR SUMMER LEAGUE:

Former Husker Trey McGowens will begin his professional career next week, as he was signed by the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2022 NBA2K23 Summer League in Las Vegas.

The Clippers will play five games in Las Vegas beginning on July 9th against the Memphis Grizzlies (8:30 p.m. CT, NBA TV). The Clippers’ other scheduled games are July 12 (LA Lakers, 11 p.m., NBA TV), July 13 (Denver Nuggets, 9 p.m., NBA TV) and July 15 (Utah Jazz, 4 p.m., ESPN2).

The Clippers have a pair of ties to Nebraska basketball, as Tyronn Lue just completed his second year as head coach of the Clippers, while Cookie Belcher is an assistant coach in the organization.

McGowens started two seasons at Nebraska and averaged 9.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game while he was often assigned to the opponent’s top perimeter scoring threat.
