AMERICAN LEGION AREA DISTRICT TOURNAMENTS ANNOUNCED:
American Legion Baseball district tournament matchups have been officially announced for Nebraska Class A Districts.
The Runza Seniors of Kearney have been placed in the A7 District and will compete at Duncan Field in Hastings. Hastings Five Points Bank has been placed as the top overall seed with a first contest bye, with Grand Island Home Federal at #2, the Scottsbluff WESTCO Zephyrs at #3, North Platte #4, Lexington Pinnacle Bank at #5, Kearney Runza at #6, and Grand Island U-Save at #7.
Tournament play begins on Friday between Lexington and North Platte at 2 PM, followed by Kearney and Scottsbluff. Pregame coverage on KGFW begins at 4:15 PM with first pitch set for 4:30 on KGFW. Listen to the contest on 1340 KGFW, 96.1 FM, on the free KGFW mobile app, and online at KGFW.com.

Whipple added he’s happy with the progress of all his quarterbacks, saying he’s been able to work with them in 7-on-7 drills and individual drills throughout June.
FORMER LOPER COACH MORRIS NAMED TO NEBRASKA FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME:
Along with six Nebraska Football standouts and other representatives for the 2022 Nebraska Football Hall of Fame class, former UNK Football Head Coach Darrell Morris has also been selected to be honored.
Morris served as the head coach at Nebraska-Kearney for 15 seasons from 2000 to 2014. Morris posted a 101-63 career record with the Lopers and guided UNK to four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships and four NCAA Division II playoff berths. His 2009 team posted a school-best 11-2 record.
NEBRASKA FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES 2022 HALL OF FAME CLASS:
Six Nebraska standouts and two Nebraska college representatives comprise the 2022 class of the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
The 2022 inductees were chosen by the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by the Nebraska Chapter of the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame. The 2022 Hall of Fame class will be officially inducted at a Sept. 9 banquet in Lincoln and recognized the following day at the Huskers’ home game against Georgia Southern.
Four former Huskers were selected to the 2022 class by balloting of the Hall of Fame membership, including defensive back Ric Lindquist (1980s category), cornerback Bruce Pickens (1990s category), offensive guard Toniu Fonoti (TONI-uh PHONE-oh-TEE) (2000-06 category) and cornerback Prince Amukamara (2007-12 category). The Nebraska Football Hall of Fame also selected a pair of former Huskers from the Legends category including offensive tackle Ron McDole and linebacker Lee Kunz.
The 2022 class of inductees will also include a pair of state college representatives. Darrell Morris was the head coach of the Nebraska-Kearney program from 2000 to 2014, while Ross Wurdeman was an All-America tight end at Concordia.
HUSKER WOMEN TO FACE HOKIES IN BIG TEN/ACC CHALLENGE:
The Nebraska women’s basketball team will travel to Virginia Tech for the second time in seven seasons to battle the Hokies in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 1.
The Huskers (24-9) and Hokies (23-10) are both coming off NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022. Nebraska finished sixth in the final regular-season Big Ten standings with an 11-7 league mark before advancing to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals in Indianapolis. Virginia Tech tied for third in the ACC with North Carolina and Notre Dame after battling its way to a 13-5 conference mark a year ago. The Hokies fell in the ACC semifinals to No. 3 NC State.
Nebraska’s clash with Virginia Tech will mark the second all-time meeting between the two programs in women’s basketball and both have come on the the road in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Hokies defeated the Huskers, 76-67 on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va., in Coach Amy Williams’ first season leading the Huskers. That was also the first season at Virginia Tech for Hokies head coach Kenny Brooks.
STORM ANNOUNCE MULTIPLE TRANSACTIONS RESULTING IN DRAFT PICKS:
The Tri-City Storm has announced multiple transactions that have resulted in the acquisition of several high-round draft picks.
The Storm has acquired a 1st round Phase II draft pick in 2024, a 2nd round Phase II draft pick in 2023, a 3rd round Phase I draft pick in 2023, a 3rd round Phase I draft pick in 2024, and a conditional draft selection from the Youngstown Phantoms in exchange for defenseman Andrew Strathmann, and a 9th round Phase I draft pick in 2024.
Tri-City has also acquired a 4th round Phase I draft pick in 2023 from the Madison Capitols in exchange for forward Jonah Aegerter in a separate transaction.
