GRAND ISLAND EARNS A7 SENIORS, JUNIORS TITLE:
With wins over Hastings in both Lexington and at Duncan Field, Grand Island Legion Baseball claimed the A7 Juniors and Seniors district titles on Tuesday evening. Grand Island Home Federal Seniors won 7-2 over Hastings Five Points Bank at Duncan Field, while the GI Juniors won 10-7 over the Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes Juniors.
Both teams advance to their respective state tournaments, as the seniors head to Bellevue while the juniors will compete in Kearney this upcoming weekend.
Likewise, as the POST 52 Juniors host the Juniors State Tournament this year, they have been officially seeded for the 7 PM game on Saturday night at Memorial Field. The POST 52 Juniors will take on the winners of the A6 District Tournament, Norfolk.
KGFW will provide coverage of the Kearney Juniors in their State Tournament run. Pregame will begin at 6:45 PM on KGFW Saturday night.

Johnson is the leading returning rusher from last year’s Huskers, and is predicted to be the starting running back heading into fall camp.

Yant had some memorable moments last year including a big run against Northwestern, but is looking for more consistent play especially in short yardage opportunities.
APPLEWHITE – EXCITED TO SEE ERVIN RETURN TO FULL HEALTH:
Nebraska Running Back Gabe Ervin injured his knee in Week Four last season, ending his fall season and holding him out of spring camp this off-season. Running Backs coach Bryan Applewhite said he’s anxious to see what Ervin can bring to the field…
Ervin maintained his true redshirt after only appearing in four games last season. He is also the first true freshman to ever start a season opener in Husker Football history.
LINCOLN NATIVE NGOYI PICKS CYCLONES OVER HUSKERS:
Lincoln Native and current Lincoln High Link Beni Ngoyi announced his commitment Wednesday, as the three-star receiver chose Iowa State over his hometown Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Washington Huskies.
Ngoyi is ranked the No. 7 player in Nebraska, the No. 103 wide receiver in the country for the 2023 class and a top-800 player nationwide
Iowa State was one of the last programs to offer Ngoyi on March 21, 2022, but the Cyclones were the first of his final three. He took an official visit to Iowa State on June 10, one week after an official visit to Washington.
In his junior season with Lincoln, Ngoyi averaged 51.9 yards per game and recorded six touchdowns.
HUSKER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FACES KANSAS IN LINCOLN:
The Nebraska women’s basketball team will face an old foe in its 2022-23 regular-season non-conference finale, when the Huskers play host to Kansas at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
The game, which will feature a pair of 2022 NCAA Tournament teams, will mark the second trip to Lincoln for the Jayhawks since Nebraska left the Big 12 Conference following the 2010-11 season. The Huskers defeated Kansas, 58-52, on Dec. 5, 2018.
Kansas is coming off a 21-10 season that included an 11-7 Big 12 mark and culminated with a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
AL WINS OVER NL IN ALL-STAR WIN:
Giancarlo Stanton homered into an especially sweet spot in his Dodger Stadium homecoming at the All-Star Game, putting his name alongside some of the sluggers he loved watching from the left field seats as a kid.
Byron Buxton followed with another drive and the American League won its ninth straight Midsummer Classic, beating the National League 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Stanton was chosen the game’s MVP, receiving a glass bat engraved with his name from two-time MVP Steve Garvey and Billie Jean King, part of the Dodgers ownership.
