MIKE DAWSON – SPORTS NIGHTLY COMMENTS:

DAWSON – SAME LANGUAGE FOR INTERIOR AND OUTSIDE LINEMAN:

Dawson continued saying that it’s nice to have each defensive lineman in the same room for film study to cut out any middlemen.

DAWSON – GARRETT NELSON’S WORK ETHIC WILL SHOW IN PRODUCTION:

Defensive Line coach for the Blackshirts Mike Dawson joined Sports Nightly on Monday night and praised Garrett Nelson’s work ethic, hoping to showcase his new athleticism into some production…

Nelson nearly doubled his total tackles from 2020 in 2021, while recording 5 sacks and forcing a fumble for the Blackshirts.

DAWSON – TANNOR LEARNING HOW TO COMBAT FRUSTRATION:

Defensive line coach for Nebraska Mike Dawson sat at the Sports Nightly desk on Monday night and praised returning pass rusher Caleb Tannor, saying his frustrations from last season could lead to big things in 2022…

REIMER NAMED TO BUTKUS AWARD WATCH LIST:

Nebraska linebacker Luke Reimer was tabbed for the preseason Butkus Award watch list Monday morning. The Butkus Award is annually presented to the nation’s top linebacker.

Reimer is one of the defensive anchors for the Blackshirts, as he begins his third season as a starter in 2022. Last season, the 6-foot-1, 225-pound junior from Lincoln North Star earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten honors from both the coaches and media, totaling 108 tackles, including 6.0 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and seven pass breakups.

He set career highs in tackles and TFLs and became the first Husker since 2018 to have a 100-tackle season. Reimer ranked fifth in the Big Ten in both tackles (108) and tackles per game (9.0) last season. He totaled double-digit tackles five times in 2021, including a career-high 19 tackles against Purdue

HUSKER MEN ANNOUNCE NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE:

Three road trips against power conference foes and a trip to Orlando highlight Nebraska’s 2022-23 non-conference schedule. The Huskers, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Fred Hoiberg, will be tested and could face as many as seven power conference teams in non-conference play. Under Hoiberg, NU’s schedule has ranked in the top 35 in each of the past two seasons, including sixth in 2020-21.

The Huskers will play three of their first four regular-season games at Pinnacle Bank Arena, including matchups with Maine (Nov. 7) and Omaha (Nov. 10).

NU will travel to Queens, N.Y., for a matchup with St. John’s in the Gavitt Tipoff Games on Nov. 17. Nebraska will play four of its next five games away from home, beginning with the ESPN Invitational (Nov. 24, 25 & 27).

Following the trip to Orlando, the Huskers will host Boston College in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge (Nov. 30) before traveling to Omaha on Dec. 4 for the annual matchup with a Creighton team that returns the bulk of its roster from last season.

HUSKER FOOTBALL GETS PUBLIC LOVE FROM ‘BETTER CALL SAUL’:

The Nebraska football program got all kinds of love on tonight’s episode of Better Call Saul. No spoilers, but the 2010 Huskers team becomes fairly essential to the plot.

In the middle of Season 6, Episode 10 entitled “Nippy,” Bob Odenkirk’s character Saul Goodman attempts to befriend a security guard at the mall based in Nebraska and quickly establishes a rapport with the guard by talking about Huskers football.

Their very first conversation centers on a recent game between the Huskers and the Texas Longhorns.

Over the course of several conversations, Gene and the guard discuss everything from Nebraska’s then-imminent move to the Big Ten, then-star quarterback Taylor Martinez, Bo Pelini, the legacy of Tom Osborne and the famed 1995 Nebraska football team.
