BUSCH – EVERY POSITION IS IMPORTANT FOR SPECIAL TEAMS:

New special teams coordinator for the Huskers Bill Busch spoke to the media after Thursday’s practice and said each player is beginning to understand how critical each position is…

Busch continued in saying Rahmir Johnson has gone from returning kicks to protecting kickers and returners, and has begun to flourish in the new role.

BUSCH – KICK, PUNT, SNAPS; MOST IMPORTANT PART OF SPECIAL TEAMS:

Nebraska Football’s special teams coordinator Bill Busch addressed the media after Thursday’s practice and spoke on the three critical parts of his unit for the season…

The Huskers are light on experience in the defensive backfield and defensive line, and will rely on their linebackers to set up another stingy return for the Blackshirts.

RUUD – HAUSMANN WORKING TOWARDS PLAYING TIME:

Columbus freshman Ernest Hausmann went from playing Class A football last fall to enrolling early to Nebraska in the spring, to now possibly garnering some playing time for the Huskers. Linebackers coach Barrett Ruud spoke more about the talented underclassman…

Hausmann had over 160 career tackles at Columbus and left early to enroll at Nebraska to participate in spring practices.

NFL APPEALS WATSON DECISION:

The NFL is seeking an indefinite suspension of at least one year plus a fine in appealing a disciplinary officer’s decision to suspend Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson for six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Watson would be required to undergo treatment before he could be reinstated. The league initially recommended an $8 million fine and asked during settlement negotiations for at least a $5 million fine plus a 12-game suspension that never materialized.

The NFL’s appeal gives Commissioner Roger Goodell or someone he designates authority to impose a stiffer penalty. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said it’s still to be determined whether Goodell or someone else will hear the appeal.

Former federal judge Sue L. Robinson issued her ruling Monday after Watson was accused by two dozen women in Texas of sexual misconduct during massage treatments while he played for the Houston Texans.

LIV GOLFERS MICKELSON, OTHERS SUE PGA TOUR OVER SUSPENSIONS:

Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and nine other players who defected to the Saudi-funded LIV Golf filed an antitrust lawsuit Wednesday against the PGA Tour, the first step in a legal fight that could define the boundaries of where players can compete.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, claims the PGA Tour has used monopoly power to try to squash competition and has unfairly suspended players.

A separate motion was filed asking for a temporary restraining order to allow Talor Gooch, Matt Jones and Hudson Swafford to play in the FedEx Cup playoffs, the PGA Tour’s postseason, which begins next week.

The lawsuit also revealed that PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan suspended Mickelson for two months in March for his role in recruiting players to LIV Golf.
