A plane landed northwest of Kearney Saturday afternoon, after reported mechanical issues.
The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an airplane on a county roadway northwest of Kearney on south of E. 92nd St. and N Ave. The roadway was closed for three hours.
Preliminary information indicated that a 52-year-old Smithfield man reported mechanical issues with his single engine Piper airplane, and proceed to land on the county roadway.
The plane received some damage, but the pilot was uninjured and the only occupant.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were contacted. The Buffalo County Highway department assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
