SCOTT FROST – HUSKER PRACTICE COMMENTS:
FROST – CAPTAINS VOTED ON BY TEAM BEFORE HEADING TO DUBLIN:
Head Coach for Nebraska Football Scott Frost addressed the media Sunday and touched on the recent vote held by the Big Red to name their captains for the 2022 season…
Audio PlayerAll captains have been with the Huskers at least three seasons with Nick Henrich, Garrett Nelson, and Caleb Tannor representing the defensive side of the ball and Travis Vokalek showcasing the offense.
FROST – EXAGGERATION ON PUKE GATE:
More social media headaches came last week after Head Coach Scott Frost mentioned on Sports Nightly that the offensive line was puking “10-15 times per practice”. Frost addressed #PukeGate to open his press conference on Sunday…
Audio PlayerFrost added his team is well prepared, conditioned, and confident heading into their Week Zero matchup against Northwestern in Ireland.
FROST – NO GOOD WAY TO PREPARE FOR TRAVEL TO EUROPE:
Head Coach Scott Frost addressed the media on Sunday and was asked what the plan is for the Huskers in terms of travel preparation to play in Ireland this Saturday…
Audio PlayerFrost and the Huskers flew to Ireland Sunday night and will also participate in cultural events, have some free time around Dublin, and will continue to train throughout the week leading into their matchup with Northwestern on Saturday.
FROST – THOMPSON SHOWED EXPERIENCE IN FALL CAMP:
Casey Thompson was named the Huskers starting quarterback last Thursday and Head Coach Scott Frost spoke on what separated the former Texas quarterback above his peers during fall camp…
Audio PlayerThompson started several games the past few seasons in the Big 12 for the Longhorns, and gets the nod over Chubba Purdy, Heinrich Haarberg, and Logan Smothers.
FROST – RUNNING BACK STARTER STILL YET TO BE DETERMINED:
Head Coach for Nebraska Football Scott Frost addressed the media on Sunday prior to heading off to Ireland and was asked what separates each running back from each other in hopes of naming a starter…
Audio PlayerFall camp reports say that Anthony Grant – the JUCO transfer – and returning starter Gabe Ervin have impressed so far in camp. Rahmir Johnson was noted as a flex and utility option last week, as he will play running back and receiver throughout the season.
FROST – NORTHWESTERN IS MUCH BETTER THAN LAST SEASON:
The biggest win in the 2021 season for the Huskers came against Northwestern last season – a 56-7 drubbing in Lincoln where Nebraska was firing on all cylinders for once that season. Head Coach Scott Frost doesn’t want to predict a similar outcome for this Saturday’s contest…
Audio PlayerFrost has only won one season opener in his tenure at Nebraska, the 35-21 victory over South Alabama in 2019. The Huskers take on Northwestern in Ireland on Saturday with kickoff at 11:30 AM.
HUSKER MEN’S HOOPS LOSES McPHERSON FOR SEASON:
Nebraska men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg confirmed Monday that redshirt freshman guard Quaran McPherson recently suffered a season-ending knee injury.
McPherson suffered the injury in training prior to returning to Lincoln for the start of the fall semester. An MRI by Nebraska’s medical staff upon his return revealed the extent of the injury to McPherson’s left knee. He will undergo surgery in the coming weeks and will start his rehab.
According to men’s basketball athletic trainer R.J. Pietig, McPherson’s recovery is expected to be between six and eight months following surgery. McPherson is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2023-24 season.
LOPER VOLLEYBALL COMPETES WITH OMAHA, FALLS IN EXHIBITION:
A young Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team battled Division I Nebraska-Omaha Saturday afternoon in an exhibition match at Baxter Arena.
The Lopers and Mavericks, old time Division II rivals, met for the first time in over a decade. UNO took all four sets by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 and a 3-0 fourth set.
UNK, playing five first-year payers this afternoon, led early in the second set and led throughout the third before a late UNO rally in each set.
UNK starts the regular season at home next Friday against Minot State and Midwestern State.
FORMER LOPER WRESTLER USMAN KO’d FOR FIRST TIME IN CAREER:
Leon Edwards stunned former UNK Grappler Kamaru Usman and the rest of the mixed martial arts world on Saturday night with a knockout kick in the fifth round of their bout at UFC 278.
Edwards snatched the UFC welterweight championship from Usman with the win. The knockout blow came with 56 seconds remaining in the match.
Usman, considered to be the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, was likely on his way to a decision victory against Edwards before the kick. He controlled Edwards throughout the third round and led on the judge’s scorecard 39-37. But Edwards landed the shocking blow to put the “Nigerian Nightmare” on his back.
FORMER HUSKER FISHER CALLED UP TO METS, EXCELS IN DEBUT:
A year ago, Nate Fisher was employed by the First National Bank of Omaha determining whether to approve commercial loans. On Sunday, at Citizens Bank Park in his major league debut, he issued a denial to Phillies hitters.
The former Husker sparkled in pitching three scoreless innings, Mark Canha hit two homers and drove in five runs and the New York Mets rallied past Philadelphia 10-9.
Fisher became the 38th Nebraska baseball player to reach the Major Leagues after his contract was selected by the New York Mets
