HUSKER VOLLEYBALL DOMINATES IN THREE SETS IN OPENING SEASON MATCH:

In a dominating stroke of a performance, Nebraska Volleyball crushed Texas A&M Corpus-Christi in a 3-0 sweep at the Bob Devaney Sports Center earlier today.

Nebraska won 25-15, 25-16, and 25-9 to begin the season 1-0 in the Ameritas Players Challenge in Lincoln.

The Huskers will face Tulsa at 6:30 PM tonight. Pregame begins at 6 PM on KGFW. Tulsa lost to Pepperdine 3-1 earlier today in the opening match of the day.

LOPER VOLLEYBALL WINS GAME ONE OF ROSELLA MEIER CLASSIC:

UNK Volleyball began their regular season Friday afternoon with a matchup against Minot State, crushing the Beavers in three sets.

The Lopers won each set 25-16, 25-10, and 25-13. It is a solid rebound after being blanked by Division One UNO last week in an exhibition match.

UNK will also face Midwestern State today at 6 PM at the Health and Sports Center.

KEARNEY BEARCAT FOOTBALL WINS GAME ONE OVER LINCOLN EAST:

In a game dominated by inexperience, big plays made by the Kearney defense and a stellar 69 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter by Ethan Kowalek gave the Bearcat football team their first win on the 2022 season, finishing off Lincoln East 14-6 at Seacrest Field on Thursday night.

A game riddled with three-and-outs and short drives, the contest was flipped by Zander Reuling receiving a short touchdown toss from Treyven Beckman in the second quarter. Leading 7-0 into halftime, East’s Dash Bauman found paydirt from 65 yards out but the ensuing PAT was blocked by Bearcat Justin Murray.

Leading 7-6, Kearney played keepaway despite a resilient effort by the Spartans to close the gap. Unable to get the ball into the hands of Malachi Coleman – the Spartans best offensive weapon – Kearney trudged away from Lincoln with the victory.

The Bearcats return home to face Fremont on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 PM from Ron and Carol Cope Stadium.

HUSKER FOOTBALL SCOTT FROST COMMENTS:

FROST – COLTON FEIST EARNED HIS BLACKSHIRT:

Head Coach for the Huskers Scott Frost was asked what made Yutan walk-on Colton Feist stand out to earn his Blackshirt…

Frost added that it was nice to see another Nebraska native earn the practice jersey along with other stellar returning Huskers from last year’s defense.

FROST – WANT OFFENSE TO LOOK EFFICIENT:

Head Coach for Nebraska Football Scott Frost laid out what he wanted to see from his Big Red offense in the Week Zero matchup in Ireland…

Frost and the Huskers have not won their opening contest of a season since 2019 against South Alabama. Nebraska battles Northwestern Saturday with kickoff at 11:30 AM.

FROST – PLAYERS HAVE HANDLED IRELAND TRIP WELL:

Nebraska Coach Scott Frost spoke on the extracurricular activities that Nebraska has participated in this week while in Dublin, Ireland preparing for the Week Zero matchup with Northwestern…

The Huskers have shared time with many cultural events but have most looking forward to playing in Ireland’s Aviva Stadium on Saturday with kickoff at 11:30 AM.

FROST – SOME CONCERN NOT CALLING PLAYS THIS SEASON:

Head Coach Scott Frost has been the primary play-caller for the Big Red offense since he took over as head coach in 2018. This season, that duty will fall upon offensive coordinator Mark Whipple. Frost says he’s still a bit anxious about the change…

Frost added that without calling plays, he’ll be able to give more attention to the special teams and game management portions of each contest.

FROST – TRAVEL TRANSITION HAS BEEN SMOOTH FOR BIG RED:

Head Coach Scott Frost was asked after Thursday’s practice in Ireland what the travel experience has been like for his team and how his players have handled the changes…

The Huskers have not played overseas since competing in Japan in 1992.

FROST – SCHEDULE HAS NOT CHANGED; TEAM IS READY FOR THE GAME:

Head Coach for the Huskers Scott Frost reiterated after Thursday’s practice that the team is still focused on football despite having a few events left to partake in while in Ireland…

Frost and the Huskers would like to start the season 1-0 for the first time since 2019. Nebraska and Northwestern kickoff Week Zero action on Saturday at 11:30 AM.

NEBRASKA RECEIVES COMMITMENT FROM CAMERON LENHARDT:

Just two days after naming a top three EDGE, Cameron Lenhardt has committed to Nebraska. The Huskers won out for the talented edge rusher over Michigan State and Penn State.

The Huskers have landed their 14th recruit in the 2023 class with Lenhardt. He is the second EDGE in the class, joining Husker legacy Maverick Noonan from Omaha (Neb.) Elkhorn South. They are expected to be the only two EDGE rushers in the class.

Lenhardt only took an official visit to Nebraska and was in the process of lining up additional official visits.
