September is National Food Safety Education Month, a month dedicated to informing consumers about safe preparation and handling techniques.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Department reports about 1 in 6 Americans a year face a food borne illness, that’s about 48 million cases annually.
It’s also estimated that food borne illnesses result in about 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths.
Therefore, knowing how to handle and prepare certain foods can help prevent and lower the chances of unwanted sickness.
Information about techniques, safe practices and more can be found at fda.gov/food/consumers/food-safety-education-month.
