FROST FIRED AFTER FIVE YEARS AT HUSKERS; JOSEPH NAMED INTERIM:
The Scott Frost era of Nebraska football is over.
Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts issued a statement Sunday afternoon on the situation, stating he informed Frost of the change on Sunday morning and thanked him for his dedication and hard work to Nebraska Football.
Alberts also added that Mickey Joseph will continue the season as the interim head coach until the conclusion of the year. Joseph is the first African-American head coach for any Nebraska Athletics sport in school history.
The move came after the Huskers were upset at home, 45-42, by Georgia Southern, giving Frost a 1-2 start in his fifth season in Lincoln. Frost ended 16-31 during his run at his alma mater.

The change comes after Nebraska went 16-31 over the past five seasons with Frost at the helm as Nebraska never finished better than 5-7 and never saw postseason action under the former quarterback.

The Huskers dropped to 1-2 on the season following their home loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday night. HUSKER VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS HILDEBRAND’S BEACH TO MOVE TO 7-0:
The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team won its seventh match in a row to start the season with a 25-16, 25-22, 25-14 sweep of Long Beach State on Saturday in front of 8,182 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Whitney Lauenstein had a match-high 12 kills on .381 hitting with four blocks to lift the Huskers (7-0). Bekka Allick provided eight kills and three blocks, and Madi Kubik had eight kills on .333 hitting, surpassing 1,000 career kills in the match.
The Huskers host No. 11 Stanford on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Pregame on KGFW begins at 6:30 PM.
UNK VOLLEYBALL NEARLY PULLS OFF WASHBURN STUNNER:
The second-ranked Washburn Ichabods controlled the third and fourth sets and scored the final two points in the fifth to rally past seventh-ranked Nebraska-Kearney Saturday afternoon in Kansas.
The ‘Bods (10-2, 2-0), defending National Runners Up, remain unbeaten while the Lopers drop to 10-1 (1-1). These teams will meet again Oct. 4 at the Health & Sports Center.
WU ended the 2.5 hour match with more kills, digs, blocks and hit 74 points than UNK but the Lopers hung around until the bitter end. After scoring the last five to take the first set, the Lopers tried to score the final four of the match to record the win.
Newman (6-5, 1-1) and Central Oklahoma (12-0, 2-0) visit Friday night and Saturday afternoon for the Lopers.
STROM DROP PRESEASON CONTEST TO FORCE:
The Tri-City Storm dropped a preseason contest to the Fargo Force by a final score of 9-3 Saturday afternoon at the Tyson Events Center. Artemi Nizameyev (2), and Brock James scored goals in the game for the Storm.
Tri-City returns to action on Tuesday in a road game against Lincoln. Puck drop is set for 1:00pm CT.
