HUSKER VOLLEYBALL MATCHES TOP TEN STANFORD IN LINCOLN TONIGHT:

The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team faces its first top-10 opponent this season with a showdown against No. 9 Stanford on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The Nebraska-Stanford match pairs two of the most consistent NCAA volleyball programs of all-time. Nebraska and Stanford are the top two programs in the country in most weeks ranked in the AVCA Poll and most weeks ranked in the Top 10.

No. 9 Stanford is 4-2 this season having faced one of the toughest schedules in the nation. The Cardinal have wins at No. 13 Florida (3-2) and No. 3 Minnesota (3-1), and their two losses are to No. 1 Texas (0-3) and No. 20 Penn State (2-3).

Stanford leads the all-time series, 11-6, and has won the last four meetings between the teams. Think includes a Stanford 3-1 victory in Palo Alto last year.

Pregame on KGFW begins at 6:30 PM tonight.

NEBRASKA VOLLEYBALL – COOK COMMENTS:

COOK – WE WANT TO PLAY TOP COMPETITION:

Head Coach for Nebraska Volleyball John Cook spoke after Monday’s practice in preparation for the Huskers big matchup against Stanford tonight. Cook added that he’s always looking to compete against top competition…

The Huskers fell to Stanford 3-1 last year in Palo Alto and are aiming to topple the Cardinals in this year’s Top Ten matchup.

COOK – STANFORD & KENTUCKY GOOD TESTS PRIOR TO BIG TEN:

Head Coach for Nebraska Volleyball John Cook is appreciative of the tough non-conference schedule set before the Huskers this week as Nebraska battles Top Ten Stanford tonight and Kentucky on Sunday. Cook said it is all about getting ready for a brutal conference slate…

The Huskers will battle Stanford tonight at the Bob Devaney Sports Center with pregame at 6:30 on KGFW.

COOK – SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR THE WEEK:

Husker Volleyball has a tough challenge tonight facing No. 9 Stanford in Lincoln. The test tonight also sets up a Sunday road contest in Lexington, Kentucky facing the Wildcats. Head Coach John Cook wanted to ensure his team still had plenty of rest despite the different schedule…

Both the Nebraska Volleyball matchups can be heard on KGFW with pregame tonight starting at 6:30 PM after Sports Nightly.

COOK – NEW OFFENSIVE LOOK GIVES BIG BLOCKS AND HITTERS:

Head Coach John Cook has adjusted his lineup into a 6-2 look and explains his reasoning after Monday’s practice…

Nebraska will use the new look offense in facing Stanford tonight for a Top Ten showdown in Lincoln. Pregame begins at 6:30 PM with first serve at 7 on KGFW.

NEBRASKA FOOTBALL – FROST FIRING PRESS CONFERENCE:

ALBERTS – LOST SLEEP OVER DECISION TO FIRE FROST:

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts addressed the media on Sunday as Head Coach Scott Frost was relieved of duty after falling to Georgia Southern 45-42. Alberts began his opening statements saying it was a decision he never wanted to make…

The change comes after Nebraska went 16-31 over the past five seasons with Frost at the helm as Nebraska never finished better than 5-7 and never saw postseason action under the former quarterback.

ALBERTS – JOSEPH IS HEAD COACH; DECISIONS ARE HIS:

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts filled a loaded press conference on Sunday afternoon officially announcing the removal of Scott Frost as head coach. Frost has been replaced in the interim by associate head coach Mickey Joseph, who Alberts says he trusts wholeheartedly to make whatever decisions necessary to win…

Joseph becomes the first African-American head coach in any Nebraska Athletic sport with his interim position.

ALBERTS – OWED IT TO PLAYERS TO MAKE A CHANGE:

Trev Alberts, Nebraska Athletic Director, cut the cord Sunday morning and removed Scott Frost from duty as Head Football Coach after five seasons. Alberts added in his Sunday press conference he elected to make the change to give hope to the team this season…

Alberts also thanked Frost for his tireless effort and enthusiasm in attempting to turn the program around, but the final nail in the coffin was the 45-42 loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday night.

ALBERTS – THANK YOU TO COACH FROST:

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts made an official announcement on Sunday morning that the Huskers had moved on from Head Coach Scott Frost after a 16-31 tenure in five seasons. Alberts was nothing but appreciative of Frost during his opening remarks during his Sunday press conference…

The Huskers dropped to 1-2 on the season following their home loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday night. Nebraska has replaced Frost in the interim with Mickey Joseph as Alberts added a national coaching search will take place with the expectation of hiring a new coach prior to the early signing period in December.

ALBERTS – BUILDING CHAMPIONSHIP HABITS:

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts made the decision to fire Head Coach Scott Frost Sunday morning, and during his press conference later that afternoon he stated what he wanted to see from the Huskers moving forward…

Nebraska went 16-31 under Frost and never recorded a Top 25 win over his five year tenure. The Huskers have a test on Saturday against Top Ten Oklahoma.

ALBERTS – NATIONAL SEARCH CAN LEAD TO MANY RUMORS:

Nebraska Athletics announced the decision to fire Head Coach Scott Frost on Sunday morning. After five years at the helm, Frost’s vacancy begins a new search to find the next leader of Big Red Football. Athletic Director Trev Alberts added that a nationwide search has begun…

Nebraska has several rumored targets, including Baylor’s Dave Aranda, Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, and Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell, among many others.

WILSON FALLS IN SEATTLE HOMECOMING:

It was a familiar scene in Seattle: Russell Wilson leading his team downfield for a game-winning score late in the fourth quarter.

This time, he wasn’t given a chance by his new coach in Denver, pulled off the field in exchange for a 64-yard field goal attempt that left plenty of confusion and the Seattle Seahawks celebrating an unexpected season-opening, 17-16 victory over the Broncos on Monday night.

With the Broncos facing fourth-and-5 in Seahawks territory with a minute remaining and all their timeouts, coach Nathaniel Hackett opted to let the clock run down to 20 seconds before sending out Brandon McManus to try the low-percentage kick.

Geno Smith threw two first-half touchdown passes as the Seahawks’ offense started brilliantly in the post-Wilson era. Denver had plenty of chances after halftime but fumbled twice at the 1-yard line.
