The Huskers will leave the state for the first time this season when they head to Lexington, Ky., to face No. 13 Kentucky on Sunday at 2 p.m. (CT).

Joseph has also given Chinander more coaching of the Nebraska secondary, as he will now direct the safeties with defensive back coach Travis Fisher focusing on the corner and nickelbacks for the Blackshirts.

JOSEPH – ISSUES ACROSS ALL ASPECTS OF THE HUSKERS:

Mickey Joseph was named the interim head coach for the Huskers on Sunday after the firing of Scott Frost and held his first press conference on Tuesday morning. Joseph added in his comments that the losing record for Nebraska is not due to one side of the ball…

Nebraska’s defense has been put into the spotlight with lackluster performances in the first three contests despite an electric offense lighting up the scoreboard and stat sheet.

JOSEPH – KIDS, TEAM HURTING AFTER FROST FIRING:

Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph addressed the media on Tuesday morning and said the team is still reeling from the firing of former coach Scott Frost…

As of now, no current Huskers have announced their departure from the team and have stuck together according to Joseph.

JOSEPH – THIS OPPORTUNITY IS MY CHANCE TO BECOME NEW COACH:

The Huskers are hoping to see a fast turnaround under Joseph as the Big Red face old rival Oklahoma on Saturday at 11 AM in Memorial Stadium.

STORM DROP PRESEASON MATCHUP WITH STARS:

The Tri-City Storm dropped a 3-2 preseason decision to the Lincoln Stars Tuesday afternoon at the Ice Box. Sebastian Törnqvist and Alexander Palchik netted Tri-City’s goals in the loss. The game featured more than one hundred and twenty-five combined penalty minutes.

AXTELL’S ECKHOFF NAMED MAXPREPS/AVCA PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Lexie Eckhoff, a senior at Axtell, was named the MaxPreps/AVCA Player of the Week. After recording 88 kills, 8 aces, 18 digs, and 16 blocks in 14 sets last week, the Wildcat middle blocker was chosen for the week of September 12. The award is given to just one high school volleyball player from the state of Nebraska.

The Wildcats are currently 10-3 after splitting their contests with Wilcox-Hildreth and Shelton Tuesday night. Eckhoff leads the team with a total of 148 kills while hitting .415 for the year.

PRESCOTT KEPT OFF IR FOR EARLIER RETURN FOR COWBOYS:

The Dallas Cowboys are not putting quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve after surgery on his right thumb, leaving open the possibility that he could return within the next four games.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday during his weekly appearance on the team’s flagship radio station that the team wants Prescott “to be a consideration for playing within the next four games.” That is the minimum number of games a player has to miss if placed on injured reserve.

Prescott had surgery Monday, a day after he got hurt in the fourth quarter of a season-opening 19-3 loss at home to Tampa Bay. He was following through after releasing a pass when his right hand bent awkwardly after making hard contact with the raised hands of rushing linebacker Shaq Barrett.

SUNS OWNER SUSPENDED ONE YEAR, FINED FOR RACIAL ACTIONS:

The NBA has suspended Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury owner Robert Sarver for one year, plus fined him $10 million, after an investigation found that he had engaged in what the league called “workplace misconduct and organizational deficiencies.”

The findings of the league’s report, published Tuesday, came nearly a year after the NBA asked a law firm to investigate allegations that Sarver had a history of racist, misogynistic and hostile incidents over his nearly two-decade tenure overseeing the franchise.

Sarver said he will “accept the consequences of the league’s decision” and apologized for “words and actions that offended our employees,” though noted he disagreed with some of the report’s findings.

The report said Sarver “repeated or purported to repeat the N-word on at least five occasions spanning his tenure with the Suns,” though added that the investigation “makes no finding that Sarver used this racially insensitive language with the intent to demean or denigrate.”
