UNK VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS YORK:

The now seventh-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team used its depth to sweep York University Monday night at the Health & Sports Center.

This was just the second all-time meeting between the Lopers (13-1) and NAIA Panthers (2-10).

Head coach Rick Squiers rested the majority of the regular rotation. Starting libero Jensen Rowse (Minden) did play in all three sets but moved over to defensive specialist with true freshman Lexi Stephens (Ankeny, Ia.) moving into the libero role.

Offensively, freshman outside Emilee Lane (Hays, Kan.) also appeared in all three sets and was one of six Lopers between three and nine kills.

The Lopers head to Missouri Western (3-8) on Friday night and No. 17 Central Missouri (7-4) on Saturday afternoon.

NEBRASKA AND CREIGHTON FALL IN AVCA VOLLEYBALL POLL:

The Creighton and Nebraska volleyball teams each dropped in the latest AVCA Coaches poll released Monday.

The Huskers, who lost at home to Stanford but swept Kentucky on the road, went from No. 2 to No. 3.

Creighton beat Kansas State but lost a five-setter Sunday at Rice, dropped from 17th to 22nd.

Both schools begin conference play this week.

Texas remained No. 1 in the poll, followed by Louisville, NU, San Diego and Stanford. Pepperdine, unranked earlier this year when it lost to Nebraska, has risen to 17th.

HUSKERS RECEIVE NIGHT KICKOFF FOR INDIANA HOMECOMING CONTEST:

The Big Ten Conference and the Big Ten Network announced that Nebraska’s Oct. 1 home game against Indiana will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on BTN.  The game had previously been announced as a prime-time game, but an exact kick time and TV designation were finalized on Monday.

The matchup with Indiana is Nebraska’s Homecoming contest.

NEBRASKA LOSES FOUR STAR COMMIT:

Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class is down a commit on Sunday, following the decommitment of IMG Academy Edge Cameron Lenhardt.

Lenhardt, who was recruited by defensive line coach Mike Dawson and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, officially visited Nebraska in June and committed to the Huskers in August over a final group of Michigan State and Penn State.

Lenhardt’s decision followed the news on Sunday that interim head coach Mickey Joseph had dismissed Chinander as Nebraska’s defensive coordinator.

BILLS ROUT TITANS ON MONDAY NIGHT:

The Buffalo Bills are making a loud statement by opening their season with consecutive routs over the defending Super Bowl Champs and last year’s No. 1 seed in the AFC Playoffs.

After dismantling the Los Angeles Rams on opening night, Buffalo ran over, past, and through the Titans on Monday night 41-7.

Josh Allen threw four touchdown passes, including three to Stefon Diggs, and the Bills’ defense did the rest, containing Derrick Henry and the Titans. Buffalo forced four turnovers, including linebacker Matt Milano returning the second of Ryan Tannehill’s two interceptions 43 yards for a touchdown.

Buffalo never trailed and blew the game open by outscoring the Titans 24-0 in the third quarter.

HURTS SHINES IN EAGLES WIN:

Jalen Hurts had 301 total yards in the first half in the breakout game of his young career, finishing with three total touchdowns as he led Philadelphia to a 24-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.

Trying to prove he can play like the best franchise QBs in the NFL, Hurts looked downright unstoppable from the opening drive.

Hurts hit five receivers on 5-for-5 passing — highlighted by a 19-yard strike to A.J. Brown — and finished the drive himself with a 3-yard scoring run. In the opening win against Detroit, Hurts failed to complete a pass on five attempts and the Eagles turned the ball over on downs on the first drive of the game.
