The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has announced the ninth confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI).
The ninth case was located in a backyard flock in Dawes County.
The last case was confirmed back in April.
The flock was humanely and properly disposed of according to NDA state veterinarian Dr. Roger Dudley.
Avian influenza spreads easily among birds through eye and nasal secretions.
Symptoms in poultry include decrease in water drinking, lack of energy, nasal discharge/sneezing, misshapen eggs; more information can be found at nda.nebraska.gov/animal/avian.
Producers should call NDA at 402-471-2351 if they suspect signs in their flock.
