HUSKER FOOTBALL TAKES ON RUTGERS:
Nebraska heads on the road for the first time in six weeks, as it will travel to New Jersey for a Friday evening matchup with Rutgers in Piscataway. Game time from SHI Stadium is set for shortly after 6 p.m. CT (7 p.m. local), with FS1 providing national television coverage. The game will also be broadcast on the Huskers Sports Network across KQKY/HITS 106 and KGFW with pregame beginning at 5:15 PM and 2 PM respectively.
Nebraska stands at 2-3, following a 35-21 victory over Indiana at Memorial Stadium last Saturday night. The win was the first for Nebraska under interim head coach Mickey Joseph and evened the Huskers’ Big Ten Conference record at 1-1.
Rutgers heads into the matchup with a 3-2 overall record and an 0-2 mark in Big Ten play. Coach Greg Schiano’s team opened the year with consecutive non-conference victories over Boston College, Wagner and Temple. In Big Ten action, the Scarlet Knights dropped a 27-10 decision to Iowa on Sept. 24 and lost 49-10 at No. 3 Ohio State last Saturday.
KEARNEY FOOTBALL TRAVELS TO WESTSIDE FOR ANOTHER TOP TEN SHOWDOWN:
The Kearney Bearcats suffered their first loss on the gridiron in Week 6 against their bitter rival Grand Island, but now have a chance to right the ship as they hit the road to the metro to take on No. 3 Omaha Westside.
Kearney looks to bring their top flight passing game back in line with quarterback Treyven Beckman in the Top 5 of Class A passing yards. He’ll face a stout Westside defense only allowing 154 passing yards per contest.
The Bearcats also travel from KGFW to Y102/KRNY tonight due to the Husker Football broadcast with Rutgers. Pregame begins with the High School Football Preview Show at 6 PM followed by live pregame at 6:30 PM from Westside Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
Tune in to coverage on 102.3 FM, on the free Y102 mobile app, or online at KRNY.com.
LOPER FOOTBALL HEADS TO ST. JOE ON WINNING STREAK:
The now 24th/14th-ranked Nebraska Kearney football team heads back out on the road this Saturday to take on the Missouri Western State Griffons.
It’s “Homecoming” in St. Joseph with an unusual kickoff time of 4 p.m. UNK (4-1) leads the all-time series 19-12 and has won three of the last four meetings including the past two over the Griffons (2-3).
Last fall in Kearney, the Lopers scored 28 second half points en route to a 35-14 victory. Quarterback TJ Davis (Colorado Springs) threw three touchdown passes with corner Gabriel Amegatcher (Romeoville, Ill.) recovering a fumbled punt in the end zone.
At the midpoint of the year, UNK is one of 10 Super Region 3 teams in the AFCA (American Football Coaches Assoc.) Top 29.
Missouri Western State has fallen in losses to Emporia State, Washburn, and last week to Northwestern Missouri State.
HASTINGS COLLEGE AIMS FOR SIXTH WIN TAKING ON No. 1 MORNINGSIDE:
The Hastings College Broncos continue to turn heads in the NAIA, sitting comfortably at 6-1 on the year after downing Briar Cliff last week at home.
Since suffering their only loss of the season in Week 2 at Midland 14-10, Hastings has rattled off five consecutive victories with an average margin of victory of nearly 17 points per win.
The going gets much tougher on Saturday, traveling to No. 1 rated Morningside in Sioux City, IA. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM.
