United Way of the Kearney Area held their second annual Chili Cook-off at the Archway this past Saturday.
People rolled in after doors opened at 4 pm, with tables lined up along the wall each serving a specialty chili sample with a cinnamon roll.
United Way Executive Director Julie Van Hoek shared thoughts about the successful turnout. “You know what just watching these people it’s just joy, their just having fun, it smells so good in here. It’s absolutely amazing, cornhole, raffle tickets, people eating and enjoying. I mean who doesn’t want cinnamon rolls and chili.”
Over 18 chili’s were in the cook-off ranging from sweet, and tangy to spicy. Along with more than 24 different types of cinnamons roles to pair with the chili.
Among the competitors were the United Way, The Jubilee Center, C.A.S.A, and Compass. Each with their own secret chili recipe.
In addition to the delicious food, was an intense corn hole tournament and a kids costume parade.
The Chili Cook-off kicks off the UWKA Annual Fundraising Campaign that goes towards helping their 21 partners and agencies.
