A Kearney Man was arrested for assaulting an officer Sunday night.
On Sunday at approximately 1:10am, a Kearney police officer was conducting patrols when a physical altercation was seen taking place outside of Paddy O’mally’s bar.
The officer attempted to intervene the fight when one of the individuals, identified as 25-year-old Johan De Villiers Theunissen, turned on the officer.
Theunissen began punching the officer several times.
The officer was able to gain control of the situation with the assistance of another officer.
Theunissen was arrested and charged with third-degree assault on an officer, and disorderly conduct.
